Dreamwalker (2023)

Well, this is rather compelling. [i]Dreamwalker[/i] is a visual novel with a highly original storyline, multiple endings, interesting characters and a well balanced number of player choices which have significant impact upon developments. The reader takes the part of a male protagonist, although as he is never seen, one could quite reasonably and without stretching the context of the narrative too far, read it through as whichever gender is preferred. The story begins with our MC drifting off to sleep after a typical working day as a software engineer at an IT company, but for the first time, experiencing an odd dream set in a mysterious, creepy labyrinthine maze, complete with an overwhelming fear of dread, and punctured only by a hidden voice calling out to him. The following night sees a return to the same location, only for the voice to be revealed as a real person also able to access this otherworldly place during sleep. This new acquaintance creates a business card within the shared dream and offers it to the MC, who is subsequently shocked to discover that he has the ability to bring it back into the real world with him when he wakes up – which in turn allows real life…

Dreamwalker is a VN with multiple endings, set in a contemporary world where the protagonist and others have access to a paranormal world. As the MC, you are a young man, a computer nerd, who suddenly finds himself in another world when he sleeps. The people he meets in this other world also exist in real life so he is able to contact them and talk to them during the day, as they work to discover more about this world they all visit at night. The MC also has to balance his time in this dream world with his real life job and co-workers, and not become so caught up in it he loses his job. As the MC you will face choices that do have a bearing on what later happens, and you will be faced with moral choices that you may find uncomfortable. The art work is pleasant, with Western-style sprites dressed in regular business clothes, and the music suits the story and is unobtrusive while helping to raise the tension as the journey through this strange other-world takes place. One play-through took me about two hours, but with careful saving - there are plenty of save slots - you will be able to cut down on the amount you are forced to repeat as you try for other endings. Very solid amazing game with good characterization very good endings good writing and a solid story. I won somehow but I didn't get the best ending but I'm happy with it. 1.6 hours is 50 percent of the game. Usually these kinds of games are too challenging for me but I loved how this one was not way too hard. I liked the protagonist a lot and all of the characters. Great art and music with gameplay as well as good writing. I recommend that anyone wanting to have a fun two to four hours play this game!
