Duckthing's Rolling Rooms is a fun and quirky puzzle platformer where you guide Duckthing through levels by rotating entire rooms. With 6 unique thematic islands, each containing around 10 levels, the game introduces fresh mechanics, keeping the gameplay exciting and varied. This variety ensures that the experience never feels repetitive, keeping you hooked from start to finish.
Pros:
- unique character design – Duckthing is silly, weird, and instantly likeable, making it thoroughly entertaining to play with - pretty artstyle – the visual design uses bold, flat colours and simple geometric shapes to create a playful and approachable aesthetic that evokes a sense of childlike creativity - lots of levels – with more than 60 creatively designed levels, there’s plenty of content to enjoy - varied mechanics – each island brings something new to the table, with new gameplay elements that keep things interesting – the variety of mechanics ensures that you’re never stuck in a routine
Cons:
- controls – the keys to rotate rooms feel unintuitive, and there’s no option to rebind them - completionist achievements – while focus…2 found this helpful
Quack Quack Quack, great puzzle game.1 found this helpful
64 fun puzzle rooms with several different mechanics, would recommend especially for four-legged ducks with no beaks!
Fairly simple puzzle game. Other than the practically useless undo button, the QoL is good. I really appreciated how short it was, though it could have been a bit tougher. Found myself overthinking a few levels. Still an enjoyable and light experience.
Cute & short, each puzzle is a nice quick bite. Not sure if there's a snappy genre name for the type of puzzle platformer where you rotate rooms 90 degrees at a time, but this is one of them. Combine platforming with room rotation to deliver your character to the goal, which becomes more difficult as some stages remove guard rails from the edges and you risk falling into the abyss. Each zone introduces a different mechanic twist, such as locked doors that require you to push a key block up against it, pressure-plate switches that only work in 1 orientation, and jelly blocks that are stuck to a surface but can be pushed left and right when that surface is horizontal. It's a puzzle game foremost. While platforming is part of the equation, it's pretty mild. It's not a twitchy high-motor-skill, fast-reaction-time action game, so if you like puzzles but you're worried about landing your jumps, you'll probably be fine. I initially tried to play with controller, because it really seems like that type of game, but the only controller I had handy was a PS4 pad and most of the inputs weren't recognized (PS4 is hit or miss on Steam so I'm used to it) and the keyboard button prompts remaine…
7/10 Puzzle platformer with board rotations TLDR: A fairly varied and interesting puzzle that taxes your spatial intelligence. Controls are optimized for a controller though, so playing this on a keyboard is confusing. It's a 9/10 if you play with a controller and 5/10 with a keyboard, so I dunno, 7/10 is avg between the two Good: + the core mechanic of board rotation I've seen in a few other games yet here there are many additional mechanics introduced in later stages (e.g. pushing and carrying blocks) + visuals are simple but look very stylish. I loved the animation of the duck when he tries to walk into a wall + sfx are similarly minimalistic but nice. When the duck flies off the board, there is a "quack" sound that never ceased to be funny for me Bad: - no mouse support. To rotate the board, you need to press Z and X keys. Even after 30 minutes of play, I was still confused if Z or X would rotate the board in the direction I need. That's probably because these keys are located next to each other and you press them with the left hand. I guess, with a controller, you'd press the rotation keys with thumbs of different hands, so intuitively you'd learn the directions of rotation…
