About Dungeon Manager ZV

Take a break from breaking into yet another dungeon and instead build your own and let your imagination run wild. Japanese megahit ZombieVital, named 2004’s best online software by Vector magazine, returns in its most authentic form. This classic text-based dungeon management simulation is now in English and for the first time will be released outside of Japan.

Game features include:

  • Text-Based Gameplay - easy access to the important stats, room strength, minion, trap hit points and invader details in a single screen.
  • You can build your own labyrinth of 16 stories (144 areas) maximum.
  • Summon various zombies, dragons and demons and build traps.
  • Up to 144 areas in 16 floors for you to populate with minions and traps.
  • Randomized Gameplay, featuring over 20 different enemy types.
  • Upgrade your dungeon with rare items for stat boosts.
  • Resource Management: kill and use enemies' own bones and magic force against them by purchasing traps, minions and even reviving your destroyed minions back to life.

It looks like a really stupid game that you could probably write yourself. But it's addictive and I've had a lot of fun with it. There's strategy in creating a dungeon that not only is inviting to adventurers, but snuffs out anyone who gets too far. I don't want to oversell DM ZV. It's really not all that deep, and likely I'll play it furiously for a few days then never pick it up again. But it's super cheap and worth what I paid for it.

Dungeon Manager ZV is an overly complicated Japanese imported version of Dungeon Keeper only without the graphics. Also you get to be a Manager which is probably thanks to all your hard work as a Dungeon Clerk and Dungeon Assistant Manager. If you work hard enough you could become a Dungeon Senior Manager and that would be pretty cool. Jokes aside I have no idea what's going on here. The Japanese translation is just vague enough it almost makes enough sense that you could try to play the game, but not quite. There's no actual graphics, this is more of a spreadsheet RPG/management game. The resolution is fixed and the game doesn't properly fill the screen in full screen mode. The game costs $11, you can probably get an actual Dungeon Keeper game for that and have a lot more fun. I really can't recommend this.

No resolution options (you get fullscreen or no fullscreen) Limited QoL options. This game, depending on how you play, is basically just an idle game. There is a very easy way to win via an exploit: Make a U shape, then delete the lower right corner. Now you have 4 spaces that the enemy can't reach and you can put whatever items you want there. Make zombies and traps then go idle on fast (place a rock or something on your shift key to speed the game up even more). Come back, build your next floor the same way. Then the next. Repeat until floor 10. Now, on floor 10, you still want to be doing the same thing as before, but now you want to fill the first floors so that they are full 3x3 squares with max zombies and traps. Do this for the first 3 floors. This will be your dark generator section (make more floors into generators as you can because later on you will be needing a lot). Basically, you want the enemies to kill your zombies in mass quantities so turn every zombie into full attack so that they die faster (and the enemies will be weaker when they reach your lower floors). Go to your 10th floor and you can start making Z.Demons (You can be making these earlier as well). These…

One of my favorite games. It is fairy simple, but becomes much more difficult as the dungeon grows: both in size and in popularity. I like trying to keep my monsters alive by putting them in positions where they can grow relatively safely. It is kind of relaxing to play, as most of the game runs by itself. Though you have to be wary of leaving monsters alone too long, as there is perma-death for your main dungeon creatures. All in all it is a game where your monsters take a fair amount of work to grow, you become kind of attached to them. Try different fusions or room combinations to help them get stronger and generally try to protect your dungeon inhabitants.

Basically your the big bad guy and you create an elaborate dungeon through menu navigating and trying to outlast these fools who are acting like adventurers in a video game. Definitely worth an experience and inspiration to transferring monster management to table top games.
