About Endure Island

Basic Explanation

On a deserted island, there was a repeated phenomenon of large numbers of infected individuals appearing and then disappearing. As a result of the investigation, it was discovered that a virus was the cause, and the organization to which the protagonist belongs began an investigation.
The player’s goal is to uncover the mystery of this virus and eradicate it.

This game is developed using Unreal Engine, and we have released videos explaining the development process up to version 0.1 on YouTube. We hope this will be of some help to anyone interested in game development.

Virus Research

The abnormal phenomena occurring on this deserted island are caused by the virus. It continuously mutates and multiplies, gradually making the environment more hostile.
The player's objective is to research and eradicate this virus.

First, you must explore various areas and collect items from which the virus can be extracted for research.
Your role is to understand the virus's characteristics and interactions, and then bring the results back to headquarters.

Research takes time, but you can speed up the process significantly by conducting research simultaneously at multiple facilities or by injecting a large quantity of the virus into specific equipment.

However, you can't begin anything without first acquiring the virus. Players won't just wait around either.
As the story progresses, you'll be able to release the virus from your research facilities.
For example, you can release a virus found in the "forest" into the "city," causing changes that wouldn't normally occur in that environment.
  • Promote virus proliferation to improve investigation efficiency.
  • Trigger mutations through interactions between different viruses.
  • Utilize virus interference to mitigate environmental degradation.

Since there are viruses that cannot be acquired solely through exploration, it's crucial to uncover their interactions and continue your research.
However, be careful—recklessly releasing viruses can quickly make the environment much harsher.

Escape

The player always has one most important goal: to survive and return from the deserted island alive.
If you fail to make it back, you’ll lose everything you've gained from the exploration.

Call a helicopter via the radio attached to the virus research facility and escape.
However, it will take time for the helicopter to arrive, so act before the situation becomes too difficult to survive.

The virus on this deserted island has the characteristic of repeatedly appearing and disappearing, so the next time you explore, you'll start from the same initial conditions.
Moreover, items you obtain on the island likely have viruses attached, so you can't bring them back to headquarters.
Your equipment will also reset to its initial state.

Memory

Knowledge obtained by completing quests, repaired equipment, and unlocked doors are saved as "memory" and carried over to the next investigation.
This memory can lead to the development of new scenarios in future explorations, so be sure to actively progress through quests alongside virus research.

Mutants

Mutants are created through virus mutations.
They spread contamination around them, so long-term close combat should be avoided.
Mutants appear frequently depending on the virus's state, but by stabilizing the mutation, you can prevent their appearance.

Progression

Players can grow through the skill tree, acquiring new abilities, enhancing their stats, and expanding the range of items they can craft.Additionally, as virus analysis progresses, weapon mods and virus inoculation features will be unlocked, significantly broadening the scope of gameplay.

Good to see a free game that actually isn't bad. Sad to see all the negative reviews. I'm not sure what everyone wants/expects but I don't think this is so bad, at this price point, that it should be brought down. There's combat There's crafting There's a gameplay loop lets all just call down and appreciate a dev that seems to be actively working on their game and asking nothing for it.

Endure Island by Izanabit is an ambitious free-to-play survival shooter that tries to merge open-world exploration, roguelite structure, and experimental systems into a single experience. Set on a quarantined island overrun by a mutating virus, the game frames itself around both survival and investigation, asking players not only to fight infected enemies but also to understand and manipulate the very source of the outbreak. It’s a concept that immediately stands out within the crowded survival genre, offering the promise of a more systemic and reactive world rather than a purely combat-driven one. The core gameplay loop revolves around venturing out into the island, gathering resources, studying virus samples, and attempting to escape before being overwhelmed. Each run carries a sense of risk, as failure results in losing most of your gathered materials, while successful escapes allow you to retain knowledge and progress. This creates a cyclical structure where each attempt builds on the last, blending survival mechanics with roguelite-style persistence. The inclusion of a “memory” system helps soften the punishment of failure, allowing players to gradually unlock new areas, skil…

"Endure Island" is a godawful Unreal asset flip. The developer stole a bunch of Unreal assets and slapped them into a blender, dumping the mangled result onto a basic Unreal shooter blueprint to make a pointless, contentless wave survival shooter. Ignore the store blurb, this is half a day's effort with the Unreal Marketplace. Not a real, genuine game. Sure, this might look nice in screen shots, but that's just because the developer ripped off a bunch of reasonable looking assets here. There's no game to back it up. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too, and that's glaringly obvious here. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamer…

Thoroughly enjoying this game so far. Had to put some engaging music on, but once I got past the first day of messing around I stepped right into the depths of it. It took me until the Lab to realise what was going on, but by then it was too late. Hit a rough spot getting to extraction which has got me pinned down at the moment. It will be good to get back to headquarters, that's for sure.
