About Evostrike
Story
Drifting along the edge of humanity's galaxy, your ship comes across an unknown threat.
An entire sector infested with hostile creatures. It is your objective to engage these beings, eradicate as many of them as possible, and gather data for your home sector.
Evolve
Your ship contains a small group of mercenaries which can evolve and improve their equipment and skills.
Choose from 4 different evolution paths each with unique strengths and skills.
Evolve your squad of 5 Evo-Mercs, choosing from the 12 different evolutions available.
Mastery
While your Evo-Mercs are fighting in their current evolution, they will gain mastery over their role. Each evolution has 3 mastery steps, granting them increasing buffs. These buffs persist even after changing evolutions, and their effects stack.
Combine the 39 Masteries together with the 12 evolutions to create powerful combos.
Stack the mastery of damage to allow the Sniper-Evo to punch through armor.
Stack magazine efficiency to the point where the single shot Mortar-Evo becomes a twin barreled beast.
Many more combos are there to find.
Events
Along your journey through the infested sector your ship and crew will come across different events. Be it a desire for more unstable mutations, or just simply broken parts in the med-bay. Choose how you react and live with the consequences.
Choose your Route
You'll be able to choose your own missions as you approach the heart of the infestation. Multiple paths will open up; some are harder but grant better rewards. The further you push on, the more advanced the alien threat will become.
Engage the enemy
Fight in missions against big alien armies. Analyze the map, make your plan and execute on it.
Defend!
Build defensive structure around your ship to protect it from the aliens.
Survive the night!
Nighttime is brutal, this is where the aliens hunts, they are faster stronger and more active. Survive the night and prepare for the daybreak.
Use the advantage of the burning daylight to push ahead. Use airstrikes and aggressive maneuvers to take out the alien nests one by one.
Attrition.
Some fights are too hard to be won at first. but the aliens aren't endless... The longer we persist the less of them there are. Even if it looks hopeless at first, hold fast and endure. The aliens will tire, and our ship's supply generator will increase in power as it warms up.
Elites
As we reach the heart we will encounter the elites of the infestation. Bigger stronger and with the only goal to take out our ship. Destroy their vital parts one by one and stop them from reaching our ship.
Meta-Tech
Sooner or later we will fail. We are the Drifting-Edge, we're meant to be the scouts and first responders, we're not here to do this on our own. Once we die, our date gets sent back home, and with the data we collect we'll be able to research new constructs for our fellow Drifting-Edges. They'll charge in after we have perished, stronger and with more info.

"Evostrike" is a minimalist top down RTS where some interesting design choices about unit evolution and so on were completely wasted when the developer decided not to bother with graphics at all, and didn't make any content for the game either. The RTS gameplay itself is fine and may have even gone somewhere if coupled with a quality technical implementation and meaningful level design, but that didn't happen. This looks bad compared to 1990's Flash games. This game features very lacklustre minimalist "art" for graphics instead of anything remotely contemporary. I'm sure the "developer" thought this would come across as "artistic", but it doesn't, it comes across as "really lazy". Yes, contemporary 3D graphics take a lot of time and effort to create. That doesn't mean it's okay not to bother! Developers must try to understand that gaming is a visual medium, and gamers spend a lot of money on high end gaming rigs for a reason. And that reason is not so they can look at lazy, phoned-in half efforts like this. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they deci…2 found this helpful
At the time of this review I've played slightly over 30 minutes. This is obviously a game prototype - the graphics are very rudimentary. But hey! What to you want? It's free! And it only took like 150 mbytes on my hard-drive, so I can't complain. The gameplay is more engaging than I expected. You know the feeling, when you bother to try out a game and you worry it's going to waste your time, but then you find yourself still playing it and "damn I lost Schwarzenegger, Fluffy and Swedish Chef, but Joe Biden survived! Do I need to start over? Yeah I want to get more technology points to improve their firing rang!" Yeah that feeling. Gameplay loop: You have a crew that you have to control with your mouse-clicks, and they'll shoot any aliens that are attacking, but the aliens come in swarms, and it's your job to eliminate the alien bases. You can build turrets and you'll need to also build oxygen supply depots, and the aliens will swarm your turrets and crew, so sometimes you have to play "ring around the rosey" to keep their aggro while they get chewed up by your turrets. I hope this developer keeps putting out new content. Sorry I let this game sit in my account for like…1 found this helpful
fun for the 30 minutes or so i played. but i kept encountering a bug where every time i've chosen a mission to get a new recruit, the game goes into the mission and then nothing happens. my team doesn't move, supplies don't increase, no aliens attacking. if there was a maybe recommendation, that's what i would put. edit: dev fixed the bug, changing to recommend. thanks for fixing that dev!1 found this helpful
For a free project I like it a lot, would love to see this get fleshed out more (more lore preferably)
Neat little game. Quite high quality for a free game. Great gameplay loop, with high replayability and very very addictive. Could use more maps/events/classes/traits, but maybe in a sequel. 10/10
