About EXOTERRA: A Space Journey

About EXOTERRA: A Space Journey

In EXOTERRA: A Space Journey, the player takes on the role of Gina Chun, an astronaut aboard a spacecraft on a crucial journey through the cosmos. Suddenly, and for unknown reasons, Gina awakens completely alone: the ship has been disconnected and is left in the cold, endless void of space. What happened? Where is the rest of the crew? These questions will follow the player as they solve challenging, fully interactive Escape Room-style puzzles. The truth is out there… and it’s up to you to uncover it.

HOPE-03 Needs Your Help

Exploration and space travel are inseparable concepts. The HOPE-03 needs your help. Dive into the universe of EXOTERRA: A Space Journey, uncover the reasons why the ship has come to a halt, and set it back in motion to complete the crucial journey to Proxima Centauri, where an exoplanet known as Proxima B has been discovered the perfect name for humanity’s Plan B. The fate of the human species is in your hands.

Puzzles and Exploration

EXOTERRA: A Space Journey is a first-person, Escape Room-style puzzle game with a science fiction theme, set aboard a spacecraft stranded in the dark void of outer space. The entire ship functions as one large Escape Room, divided into small rooms containing interconnected puzzles and challenges that the player must solve. To get the ship operational again, players will need to solve all the puzzles, reconnect its systems, and follow the clues scattered throughout the vessel.

Physics-Based Gameplay

Physics are a core element of EXOTERRA: A Space Journey. Most objects in the environment have realistic physical properties and can be manipulated by the player. Many of the puzzles rely on this system, challenging players to interact with and combine physical objects to solve them. Every action counts: experiment, test, and see if you have what it takes to bring the ship back to life.

The Future of Earth is Uncertain

In the year 2083, after decades of exploiting Earth’s surface and subsurface resources, a devastating catastrophe known as “The Great Cataclysm” struck the planet. Thanks to the efforts of the world’s top researchers and scientists, an ambitious project was launched: to locate the three closest exoplanets with the highest potential for habitability and to build three spacecraft carrying experts to determine whether these new worlds could support human life. Welcome to the third of these ships: the HOPE-03.Mission Objective: Find a new home and ensure the survival of the human species. The fate of humanity hangs by a thread… and you decide if there will be a tomorrow.

Fun little escape room game, but smaller than advertised. There are only really two rooms with puzzles in them. There's also a lot of walking back and forth carrying keycards and items, which is less than ideal. But for a free game, it's fine.

Another first-person point and click explorathon in which you wake up alone on an space ship. This time out you need to repair the ship's systems and get your mission back on track. Your ship, the Hope-03 is beautifully realized and a delight to explore. The sound is minimal and there is no sense of dread, or urgency for that matter. Take your time reading computer tablets strewn about the ship and searching for a few well-hidden collectibles. There is no save system, so be prepared to complete the game in one sitting or do as I did - start over a number of times while you figure it all out. Also, you can only carry one object at a time, so there is a fair amount of running back and forth. The price is right, so if you're a fan of this genre, I recommend you give it a go.

Exoterra: A Space Journey is a first-person photo-realistic 3D puzzle game set on a spaceship on a mission to create & colonise a new Earth. A virus has devastated the crew, leaving just the main character to restart the ship's systems. This means finding codes and access cards to unlock rooms & routes (or reaching them by other means), and equipment to repair & activate the energy and navigation systems. The game looks beautiful and has atmospheric systems and machinery background sounds, with just a small amount of voice acting (representing the ship's computer). The puzzles are generally straight-forward, and the many communication devices around the spaceship give clues to them, as well as background story details for the ship's mission. I think that there is only one puzzle (
one of the locked cabinets
) for which observation (rather than a textual clue) is essential, unless I missed the related comms device. This is not a long game (under an hour even if everything is examined and read), but movement around the ship can be confusing and tedious at times, particularly as only one object can be carried at a time. My play time represents three full or partial…
