About FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS

✦ AI summary

Join Cecil's son Ceodore in this full 3D remake of the epic sequel set seventeen years after Final Fantasy IV, where you'll experience ten interconnected character tales blending classic heroes with new protagonists. Battle through lunar-influenced combat powered by Band abilities that reward character synergy, all wrapped in the iconic Active Time Battle system that defined the series.

Now with a full 3-D remake, FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS can now be played as never before on PC. Take part in the epic sequel that unfolds nearly two decades after the events of FINAL FANTASY IV. Classic characters make their return alongside several new heroes, such as Ceodore, son of Cecil and Rosa.

Story : Seventeen years have passed since the war's end, and the son born to King Cecil and Queen Rosa of Baron has grown into a young man. Prince Ceodore has enlisted in the airship fleet known as the Red Wings, eager to meet the expectations demanded of his blood and station. Yet once more another moon has appeared in the sky, and with it vast hordes of monsters intent on destruction. The brief peace enjoyed by the Blue Planet now stands threatened under the shadow of impending catastrophe.

Ten Playable Tales

Begin your journey with "Ceodore's Tale." Complete it to unlock the tales of six additional characters, which can be played in any order, and then return to the core story with "Kain's Tale," "The Lunarian's Tale," and "The Crystals." A total of ten tales in all, and all contained in FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS.

Active Time Battle
Take control of exhilarating combat made possible by the non-stop action in Square Enix's iconic battle system.

Lunar Phases
Feel the moon's presence in combat, as its waxing and waning influences the potency of attacks and abilities of all combatants. Lunar phases cycle naturally with the passage of in-game time, or when resting at an inn, tent, or cottage.

Band Abilities
Combine the strength of your party members to awesome effect with Band abilities that can be unlocked through in-game events or by levelling your characters' Affinity.

Minimap

What is good comes almost entirely from the base game. Mechanically, this offers little, and the lengthy sections where you only have a single party member undercut the main advantages of the combat mechanics. Narratively, this is horribly paced, and repeats plot points from the original in a cheap and uninteresting way. In many respects, the game tips its hand with one of its first scenes. You watch as a character turns in place, walking in place like they are on a rotating treadmill. It looks ridiculous, happens throughout the story, and never happened in the base game. FF4 offers a strong base to build on, so the sequel still manages to have some satisfying or enjoyable moments. But looking back over the time I invested, I'd rather have spent it playing something else.

Everything about this game is terrible. The reused dungeons, the GRINDING, and the bland new characters just made this a terrible experience I do NOT recommend. final boss is cool tho

One of the worst games in the series of Final Fantasy RPGs and it's a shame that it's a sequel to FF4, which was one of my favorites. This game has lazy copy paste enemies and dungeons from the original game, egregious amounts of backtracking, poorly balanced segments and boss fights, terribly paced and repetitive story, underdeveloped characters, and questionable implementation of its combat elements. The last point about combat is worth discussing since it was the best aspect of the game but unfortunately held back by conflicting design decisions. One of the main system mechanics is the moon phase system, where buffs/debuffs are rotated between physical attacks, white magic, black magic, and special abilities. These affect both allies and enemies, so on paper it sounds like a cool and simple tactical system. But the problem is that the only way to rotate it manually is to rest with tents or at an inn, otherwise it rotates in real time every 30 minutes. This makes dungeon crawling in certain scenarios feel restrictive and frustrating. For example, you will have a team of only mages but get hit with a magic debuff and have to painfully slog through the rest of the battles. This fe…

Why in the ♥♥♥♥ would they choose the Mobile version of this game to port to PC? This is horrible. Slow post battle screens, zoomed in perspective, ugly menu and chat box, ugly sprites, mini-map that literally makes you pay attention to it more than the main screen, and BUGS TO THIS DAY. Yeah, ♥♥♥♥ this game. Don't buy it. They should have just ported the 2D version of this game, it would have been infinitely better than this piece of ♥♥♥♥. I'm uninstalling this garbage. Wish I could refund it, but I've owned it this long and never played it.
