Gods of the Twilight

[i]Gods of the Twilight[/i], even in its Early Access stage, manages to deliver a thrilling narrative in which the supernatural, modern technology and the Norse mythology synergize in some unexpected and exciting ways. At the moment of writing this review, two lengthy seasons of this saga are planned to be released on Steam. The first one will contain twenty chapters and is expected to be fully available in 2025. Out of these twenty chapters, just the first five are currently playable, totaling around 100.000 words or ~10 hours of playtime. In an apocalyptic world in which the Arctic melted, causing the water to cover pretty much the entire planet, humanity resorted to living on synthetic islands and is highly dependent on technological advancements. On one of these islands, New Reykjavík, a strange chain of events appears to prophesize the impending Ragnarök (also known as “The Twilight of the Gods”) - a catastrophic battle where several Norse mythological figures are deemed to perish, bringing the destruction of the world with it. Best Virtual novel I ever played. Totally love it. I want more! My theories about who is who after chapter 5. [spoiler]Farkas - Fenrir or Thor or really Loki Hektor - Balder 100% sure Sara - Jormungandr or she could be Fenrir[/spoiler]

The presentation is really good so far. Characters and environments are good. The story isn't the most original, but I'm a bit of a die-hard for this setup for character dynamics, and the voice acting helps bring more depth. A few dedicated moments for building romance between characters, which they do give you the option to flirt with almost every side character between each playable protagonist, either to create a love triangle or even try to form a poly romance in one instance, which they expect you to try to do since they have achievements for it though it's still to be determined how it's going to go as even with that freedom their probably going to make you choose between a few select characters at some point as it's not particularly clear if the romances can just be flings or serious. Nothing explicit in terms of the romance yet [spoiler] Hector and Althea playing around and cuddling in bed was surprisingly hot and wholesome though [/spoiler]. Overall, I am impressed so far and can't wait for the next few chapters to be finished.

Quick review: An extremely intriguing, competently made, and entertaining visual novel. I honestly cannot wait to see how it shapes up. Might not have the budget of some of the greats, but I honestly enjoyed what I have seen so far even more than some of the legendary visual novels like Fate: Stay Night! In this review I rate the aspects that are what I personally think about with a visual novel. Graphics: I think the character designs are all solid, and meet a perfectly good standard within the visual novel spectrum with a good mixture of decent character sprites and unique art pieces. I will say that the art is not 'the' most amazing visual novel art I have ever seen, because that would be hyperbolic, and because there are some pretty uniquely beautiful outliers in that regard. Let me be clear though this visual novel does not fall behind what I consider the general good standard, no character is just awkward or ugly. I would give Gods of the Twilight a 7/8 out of 10 in that regard (Better than bog standard, but not in awe inspiring category, and it is particularly good for what I take to be an indie project.) I love this story line. It's intriguing, exciting, yet relaxing to play so far. I'm looking forward to how it unfolds!

Hey, this one actually is Cyberpunk, mashed up with all those great City of Mist urban fantasy vibes! Great VN with wonderful production values - fully voiced, tons of custom art - a really fun, nuanced story that does a good job blending the sci-fi and fantasy elements with that "street level supers" feel, but, best of all, the characters are just a treat. Farkas reminds me of Kaneda in all the right ways, but I especially love everything about Althea - her segments are just continuously fun to play! The side characters are complex and developed, too. (And even the unnamed guards have VO!) Looking forward to future episodes~
