Gordian Rooms 2: A curious island

I really wanted to like this game, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. For starters, I'm pretty sure a number of the positive reviews here are paid for or AI generated. I can't imagine someone walking away from this game with anything but a mixed impression. There were some good puzzles mixed in there, but there were a large number of completely arbitrary ones. You end up running through the game picking up PILES of useless crap for no reason. Cards, Horseshoes, paintings of fruit, miniature cannons, masks, hats, napkins, vegetables... the list goes on. The only reason you're picking them up is because they glow when you hold down the "Highlight objects" button. Some of them are absurdly hidden inside piles of other junk that are not relevant. Eventually most of this junk you've collected ends up being used in a puzzle somewhere, but it just feels so unnatural. Moreover some of the puzzles are things that are simply obtuse for no reason. There's supposed to be some story about a family and their servants, but that feels pretty meaningless and is just some side fluff which is not relevant nor enriching to the core gameplay. For some reason the prologue to the game left a poor impression for me and I didn't care to go any further the first time I played. But I came back to it after several months and was very glad I did. This is much, much bigger than the first game, with an entire island estate to explore and a LOT of puzzles to solve. All of the areas and rooms are full of furniture, ornaments and other objects, which makes it feel like a real, lived-in place. There is even a good selection of music for you to enjoy as you progress! Most of the puzzles are fun and quite interesting to do. There is a lot of searching for and collecting of items scattered throughout the game, so it is best to take your time and be thorough! My only issue was that the logic for some of the puzzles was not very clear, but there is a hint system and I was happy to look up the useful Guides for any I got stuck on. I would have liked a bit more variety to the puzzle mechanics, but overall I enjoyed the game very much.

In the same beautiful Victorian era and style as the previous game, [i]Gordian Rooms 2[/i] is loaded with puzzles, secrets, and beautiful areas to explore. The play area is also a lot larger, taking place on an island with multiple buildings, a garden, some mazes, and a small beach with a lighthouse. The size is both a pro and a con. Sure, there are a lot more areas to investigate, objects to find, and puzzles to solve, but it also means you can have a lot of downtime searching for the next clue or object. And you need to find A LOT of hidden objects for 100% completion. The game does have a 'show nearby items' key, and I wouldn't have been able to find everything without it. Believe me, I've tried. Most puzzles were logical and not overly difficult. The few that gave me some headaches did so because the goal wasn't entirely clear. In short, this is a puzzle game with a huge emphasis on item hunting. Be prepared for that. One technical issues: the game crashed a lot on high quality setting.
