Ooof.. I am doing my hardest to love this, but i can't. Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant "sequel" from Super Hexagon. The game modes, new stages, and new 3d modes too. Great, love it, really do. Unfortunately, the game has its weakness where Super Hexagon has its strong point. The simplicity, and thus, the brilliant mechanic of your death being only your fault: In Super Hexagon, the most you can transition from is get more/less sides around to manouver. So from a triangle to a square or vice versa, for example. In Heptagon, That same transition still happens, but now you also have a transition from 2D to 3D. Especially the transition from/to the new "inside" mode is what currently hurts the game the most, in my opinion. You're now no longer in the center, near the hexagon, avoiding stuff, but on the outside. Kinda like Velocibox. BUT that also changes the way your player moves. The best way i can explain it is when you press left in 2d/3d "outside", you rotate left/counter clockwise around the hexagon. If you come from either super hexagon or open hexagon and want another hexagon-like game to challenge yourself, you might want to reconsider this one as I cannot recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of this genre of games with a straight face. This game comes with many problems, the most notorious and frequent one being the terrible transition in and out of the "inside" mode. Most of the time the game will just put you infront of a pattern without any time to process what just happened because the transition renders you practically blind to any incoming patterns, which results in your death. This problem is most common on level 3 (and that level even has a bug where the transition freaks out and just... kills you, yep lmao) but it can appear on basically every levels beside level 5 and 6. This transition will be your most frequent way of losing, not fast gameplay you're supposed to read, not a tight pattern, nope not any of this, just a poorly designed transition. Another issue regarding the "inside" mode itself: your counter-clockwise/clockwise controls are inverted compared to the other modes by default and changing it in the settings is shooting yourself in the foot for …

Take Super Hexagon, add two gimmicks that sometimes don't break, make a gauntlet of all the stages in a row, and also false-advertise it as being about heptagons, and you get the recipe for a game that had divine intervention to be functional. Jokes aside, it is a fun time, but if you come from Super/Open Hexagon, do not think you can rawdog this game. It will smack your ass then throw a brick at you constantly. Even when you think you're getting used to it, no you're not. Unless your name is Maniac. Ignoring a couple bugs and a general lack of playtesting it's a good challenge if you've completed SH/OH, and expands on the idea a lot in creative and fun ways. PS: you will need the use of SAM if you want to get all achievements visible on Steam eventually, because the achievements for that game are also broken. Truly, the pinnacle of Hexagon-like content.
