Pulsagon

Pulsagon is a small rhythm game that takes a pretty simple idea and makes it surprisingly stressful once the speed starts picking up. I am controlling a shield around a glowing centre and trying to block incoming shapes by matching the correct shape at the right time. I can rotate the shield with my mouse and switch between different shapes with the keyboard, so I am constantly doing two things at once. It starts off easy enough, but the game gradually throws more shapes, faster patterns and fakeouts at me. The main thing I like is how quickly the game gets me into its rhythm. The music is not just sitting in the background while I play. The incoming shapes are tied directly to the beat, so I have to listen as much as I watch the screen. The soundtrack covers electronic styles like EDM, chiptune and glitch, and the bright geometric visuals pulse along with it. I think the simple presentation works really well here because there is not much on screen that can distract me from what I actually need to react to.
