Hidden Tails

[H1]Not relaxing, but definitely engaging and worth a look if you can handle some movement![/H1] Thank you to Rat Studios for the curator copy. This is nonetheless an impartial review. I had my eye on this one for the Hidden Object Fest, and yeah, it delivered (mostly). You’ve got three modes to play with: Story (help an elder mouse tell the tale of Whisker, the father mouse, through mini-games), Classic 360° (find 100 mice in a full 360 environment), and Random 360° (same idea, but shuffled placements). Each mode has its own save and can be reset separately in the settings, which is great. For full transparency, I cleared Story and about 72% of Classic (27/35 achievements), so this isn’t a full 100% take for the reasons below. But first, there’s a lot of good stuff here. Story mode is cozy, with fun interactions and cute mini-games, while the 360 modes bring actual challenge (those mice blend [i]very[/i] well into the environment). The search is split into 6 zones with a global percentage tracker, which helps a ton when you’re down to the last few sneaky ones. i will always play mouse themed games because I have pet mice, but this game I might play and have them sit and watch (they probably wont sit still), maybe it will teach them to read lol

If you start with Story Mode, you are welcomed by a cozy scene. A book lies open on a table and an old mouse begins telling you a story about a mouse named Whiskers, his wife, and their two children. He guides you through the pages of the book, and each page presents a puzzle or activity that you must complete before moving on. The idea is that the old mouse sometimes forgets what he is supposed to say next, so you help him remember by solving the tasks. Most pages show an image where you need to find items that the mouse mentions, sometimes in a specific order. Other pages switch things up with small mini games. In one, you reconstruct a picture from scattered pieces. In another, you click on falling food while also dealing with troublesome creatures like cats and dogs that try to interfere. Some of these mini games can technically be failed, but that would not fit the flow of the story, so the old mouse simply encourages you to try again. Throughout the journey, the mouse continues narrating the story. The presentation, however, could use a bit of improvement. The text appears as white letters on a very bright yellow background, which makes it harder to read than it should be. …

This game was horrible. It doesn't show it in the video, but it soon becomes a clicker game which is timed. I don't like clicker games and I avoid timed games. If I had known this had either of these qualities, I wouldn't have purchased the game. If you like clicker games and/or timed games, maybe this game is for you. If, like me, you do not, avoid it.
