Iaijutsu

Iaijutsu is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. Iaijutsu itself is the ancient Japanese martial technique of drawing a sword in the most lethal way possible. The idea, and you might have seen this in a few Samurai films, to draw the sword as part of an attack. There's a certain style to drawing a sword then putting it straight back in the scabbard after killing someone with the first stroke, I suppose. Why the history lesson? To point out this game has nothing to do with Iaijutsu. It's just a crap 2D retro pixel platformer/slasher from someone who watched way too much Rouroni Kenshin or some other anime. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. one of those games you spent more time looking for than playing

The controls are needlessly awkward, it would probably play better on a controller if it had support. Ran into a couple bugs within the literal first minute including: The player character not dieing when losing all their health, and enemies stuck spamming attack in place when they are killed.
