IMMORTALITY

Legitimately terrifying to think about avant-garde mystery/horror. IMMORTALITY is, much like Sam Barlow's other game, Her Story, a game all about diving deeper and deeper into an archive to dig through information in order to make sense of its core mystery, Rather than diving into a police archive of interviews you're piecing together various film reels for three movies starting the seemingly ageless and ever elusive Marissa Marcel, whose three films never made it to screens. However, if unraveling Her Story's is designed to make the player feel like a detective as they enter keywords into a database, tugging the various threads of IMMORTALITY is designed to make the player feel like they're going mad, as they scrub through footage back and forward and zoom in on various objects to try and find new clips. IMMORTALITY's central mystery gives way to another, and another, and another, as what you think you've witnessed gives way to bigger, more shocking revelations in ways that genuinely haunted my brain for a solid week, and it'll likely haunt yours too for a while, if that's something you openly welcome from thrillers or mysteries. Would be a 10 if executed better. You can accidentally skip the final cutscene by attempting to favorite the clip when you hear the rewind chime, completely ruined the experience.

Just finished and all I can say is just.. Wow. its such a complex story that I'm not even sure i understand it after finishing it, all the different clips and characters seriously Wow. I don't think there will be another game like this

You think you'll just be playwatching a moviegame for kicks and then stuff happens and it'll be the best gamemovie you've ever seenplayed.

Unique and enjoyable game. I liked the creativity in gameplay; it reminded me a little of Her Story and a little of Obra Dinn. My only issue is that the game froze or crashed many times during the playthrough. It may also be easier to play with a controller for vibration -- I played with KBM.

A game made for (and presumably by) arthouse perverts, Immortality weaves a Biblically-allusive tale concerning the nature of film as a medium while simultaneously letting you access most scenes with nudity by clicking on breasts. It's fun gradually piecing together the drip-fed narrative through scattered footage, but the open-endedness can mess with pacing at times. YMMV, but for me the ending of the game popped up out of nowhere before I was able to develop a sense of what was going on. Once all the pieces fall into place, though, the full story makes the effort of dealing with the often RNG-based process of discovering new footage worth it in my opinion. Also, while the page says that the game should run at 8 Gb of RAM, I recommend using a machine with more if possible as it crashed rather frequently.
