Storm the Castle and slay their bosses before more innocent fall to the mysterious curse that plagues your land. In the end, only you can rid the land of Upel of these monsters, whichever way you decide to do it; you do you, dude...

● DEUX OR DIE UPDATE

Return to the lands of Upel as the Duke Alcedor, this time joined by your trusty squire Cervul as you attempt to regain control from the forces that plague your duchy. The new mode is playable as a standard 2-player local co-op or as one player hot-swap mode that allows a single person to control both characters by switching on the fly.

Use Cervul's various tools to bring victory, or ruin, to the land and the people that inhabit it in this newly rebalanced version of the game!

A pretty solid Metroidvania with good gameplay, pixel art, and multiple endings. Play as a Duke Alcedor, a knight returning to his homeland after a crusade, only to find his home infested with unholy magic, monsters, and demons. Smash your way through hordes of demons and the undead, working your way to five castle-style dungeons to defeat the creatures living inside in order to open up a church to fight the demon leading it all. Gameplay is standard side-scrolling 2D action platforming, but solidly done. Killing enemies drops coin for you to spend on weapon / armour upgrades, spells, potions, additional potion bottles, and hearts that act as additional lives. Red potions can be grabbed for free from any innkeeper, but mana potions will cost you, elixirs needing to be bought from a specialty shop in the mountains. Experience you get can be put towards your weapon power or an additional health / mana slot. Shrines act as save points and upgrade stations, refilling your health, mana, and lives when touched. Skills can be found as you explore castle dungeons, giving you the ability to smash down into the ground, launch yourself upwards into the air, or charge yourself up to leap…

Crazy game, had tons of fun with it. Did the normal good, ultimate evil and a few funny endings. There's still so much more to this game. First time I played on normal, it's punishing but not evil. After that I played casual so I could power through to get the other endings. The game itself isn't so long, it feels just right. Controls are crisps, music is really great. A hard recommend.

Extremely fun. Enemies hit hard and does dmg so its quite punishing to get hit. Youre only ever really "safe" until you have most upgrades. Only played through once so far and got a good ending. Controls are snappy and responsive.
Played a bit on two other saves with the Halloween unlock Stranger (Jason lookalike) and another playthrough where i tried doing evil things but i think i broke one of the events somehow by messing with the order of other events somehow. Anyways it was early so Its not too punishing to start over that 2nd playthrough. Just lost 2h at most of progress... maybe, its unclear from what ive been able to google if ive broken this save or not.
I grew up with the NES, SNES and Sega. This feels like a polished and advanced game from that time. Highely recommended really. Got it on the summer sale. Well worth the money IMO.

Great game if you have fond memories of Simon's Quest on the NES.

Most of your time spent in this game is dying and retrying runs because of getting one-shot by pitfalls. I know that this idea was in old NES games, but it was bad design there too. It's why from Blasphemous 1 to Blasphemous 2, they took it all out and even made an achievement acknowledging how annoying that is, barely any metroidvanias in the current decade has death pitfalls. I wish I could give this game a half recommend, because other than that, this game is really good, but I am too annoyed with the one hit kills from pitfalls littered EVERYWHERE in later dungeons I can't fully recommend this.
