INSOMNIA: The Ark

INSOMNIA: The Ark has an interesting setting, strong atmosphere, and surprisingly decent combat, but almost every good idea is buried under poor design decisions. Quests often give no XP, combat frequently costs more resources than it rewards, important items look like random junk, progression is badly explained, and the game constantly forces backtracking for obscure parts, keys, tickets, antiques, or quest flags. Even with the community patch, the game remains confusing, stingy, and needlessly hostile to the player. There is clearly ambition here, and at times the world is compelling enough to make you want to continue. Unfortunately, the actual experience becomes exhausting. Too much of the game feels like fighting the systems rather than playing an RPG: hidden progression, weak quest rewards, broken or unclear interactions, poor pacing, and constant inventory/resource frustration. After more than 20 hours, I can see the potential, but I cannot recommend it unless you have an extremely high tolerance for jank and bad reward design.

This game is so dreadfully boring to play. There's no vertical camera movement. You'll start encountering bugs very quickly after starting the game. There's a hunger/thirst system that is completely unexplained and ZERO UI elements anywhere to track your exact hunger/thirst values (but it essentially serves to put you on a time limit to complete the game before the game gets incredibly difficult due to these levels). Quest items are easy to delete before you even know that they're quest items. There's no quest markers, map guidance, or sometimes even specification of the items required to complete quests. The pacing is atrocious. The balancing of the prologue is awful. The lore of the world goes almost entirely unexplained. 1440p isn't supported. The only good things I can say is that the graphics were nice and I didn't experience any crashing. There's a complete game here, for sure, but it's just not fun. It's no wonder the game gets so cheap on sale.

a great rpg that never go t much fanfare and has chanage so much since coming out, i really like this game.

There are two Let's Plays on YouTube and both people gave up because the bugs and overall ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of the game got to them. Let me save you the money. The Ark misses its target and you're just stuck floating in space. Your big choice at the end is either put everyone into a computer or let them die on a failing ship. I chose to quit the game. Go play Colony Ship. It does everything this game was trying to do, but better.
