Kingdom Shell

Kingdom Shell is a solid Metroidvania inspired by the more older archaic metroidvanias rather than modernized genre experience. Made by a Russian or Ukrainian solo Indie developer, this game was made with passion and I appreciate that it was graphically updated and not abandoned. I recently played & enjoyed "Ghost Song", another metroidvania that is very different in gameplay feel and story vibe. I've mentioned how the genre is split into two camps: 1) The majority purists who want to chew through these games with complete disregard for story, dialogue, lore and atmosphere. 2) The minority connoisseurs who do not mind playing through a metroidvania but desire some essence on the bones. Unfortunately the purists have a hold and bury what doesn't fit the bill.. "Kingdom Shell" has very beautiful pixel art but very little story and falls into the purist camp. The game greatly annoyed and outright frustrated me at many points. It has more save spots than in Ghost Song and travel should be easier on paper, yet doesn't feel that way because dying is way too easy in this game and having to backtrack through challenging platforming rooms again and again will eventually grind the nerves.…

Kingdom Shell is a metroidvania about demon problems. Beat it and 100%ed achievements in 12.5 hours using a game controller. Difficulty is medium-hard. You'll probably die a few times. This is a pretty good, straight-of-the-road metroidvania. Traversing each area can be a puzzle, you wander the map looking for places to go, and you find upgrades/items that give you an Ahah! moment. Other reviews complain about the controls, but I never really had a problem. The monster battles were fair. The boss battles, while some can be hard, were also fair. I was intrigued by the world and different npcs, but where the game kinda lulls is in the story, itself - which felt like it was written by a highschooler. Lots of mysterious characters and intrigue, but very little to connect it all. By the time I beat it, I felt a bit of 'That's it?'. But if given the opportunity to play again and experience the over-all feel of the game, I probably would. Kingdom Shell's got character and spunk. Another blight on the game is the walking around. Yay. Another crappy platformer with sluggish, unresponsive controls and a character who controls like a bowling ball on ice skates. Yay, another crappy action game where your only weapon is a toothpick and you have to hit a boss 850 times with it and you get killed in two or three hits. So much fun. Yah, another Metroidvania where a plague has stricken the land -- how original! Yay, another crappy Metroidvania story where nobody simply speaks in plain dialog but instead delivers everything in cryptic pretentious monologues and flashbacks. Yay, another crappy "git gud" game with garbage gameplay that is hard because it is piss poorly designed, and not because the developers actually put some thought into how to make it both challenging and fun. (hint -- simply giving all enemies 10X damage while nerfing all of your attacks doesn't make for fun "challenge". I have nothing good to say about this game. It sucks at literally everything it does from its combat to its world design to its story to its platforming. The boss battles are abysmal. Metroidvania bastante componente desarrollado en su mayor parte por una sola persona, que no debería importar pero importa. El final del juego se complica pero no sé si fue porque ya soy un señor mayor. Algunos jefes son buenos y los demás están decentes.

This game was a wonderful discovery with a couple sore spots but nothing that would deter me from playing it again. I do not know how they did it, but this game feels like a modern Quintet game (Developer of Soul Blazer). It really felt like playing Soul Blazer two, because you spend time in the world learning who the inhabitants are, help them with their troubles, and get upgrades when you finish their tasks. This game is another good example of how to make a solid metroidvania, that even has a couple surprises in store.

Good metroidvania with decent length . Story is OK , Bosses are very good , areas are nice . Game starts easy and end hard but not silksong hard.It´s very fair not legendary , but i had lots of fun
