Players appreciate the game's core concept but feel hamstrung by the lack of agency and punishing randomness, particularly when bad luck with card draws (like missing food) can quickly lead to death. The progression system is frustrating because better cards often require resources you don't have if you're behind, creating a catch-22 where you're locked out of useful options and forced to skip turns, making it nearly impossible to recover from early setbacks. I like the concept of the game, but you currently have no real agency. You don't have any influence over the types of cards you draw, making it really easy to die to a bit of bad luck in not drawing food for a few turns. Cards seem to get 'better' over time, but many of the 'better' ones require you to have certain amounts of various resources to use them (minimum population, minimum happiness, etc.) making them useless if you are behind at all, and making it that much harder to catch up because some of your card draws are cluttered up with useless options, often resulting in you having to skip turns because you -can't- pick any of the options provided. Based on some of the challenge options, it seems like some of the advanced resources are supposed to give you benefits of some sort for having them, but I've yet to see them kick in, maybe due to not having enough, but the game currently has 0 tooltips or player information of any kind, so I don't really know. Game's page says 'early access' but this feels like it is still working on 'proof of concept'.
