Fun game. Was too stupid to find most of the secrets.

Good game

280 attempts and nearly thirty hours for my first winning run. What a game, man, it holds up as one of the strongest modern arcade games even thirteen years after its release. Shortly before my win I was still learning about how some objects interact. Did you know that if you try to push an explosive box over a cliff and a pot's in the way, as soon as the pot falls it counts as making contact with the box and it'll just kill you? I didn't until today! I'm so glad this game doesn't reward the player for banging their head against the wall enough times for nonsense like permanent stat boosts for health and tools like other games do in an attempt to pad out playtime. I'm also amazed at how the randomization works. After a dozen playthroughs you'll start to recognize chunks you've played through before. Still, I can only wonder what the secret sauce is that allows for these hand crafted chunks of the level design to be placed together in a way that allows for the player to reach the end because it flows extremely well. The items and tools are intuitive and make sense from the start, the enemies and hazards are always made clear to the player, and the game's versatile with the playsty…

Pretty fun, but rage inducing! Just gotta watch your step and be careful! But not TOO careful! I think I might even grab up Spelunky 2 next time it's on sale, just to give it a shot! So that should tell you that this game is at least partially appealing. And I am not a master of the roguelike genre by any means. 7.5/10, solid game

shopkeepers don't actually shoot you point blank when you steal a knickerbocker eye-are-ell but i will forgive the lapse in realism cuz game fun
