LIMINAL SHIFT

Visually this game looks really good, but sadly it was just boring. At first I actually liked it a lot. It started off like a classic Backrooms level but also had some unique things that made it stand out a bit. Sadly the game doesn't really keep that creepy atmosphere going and the tension disappears pretty quickly. The Poolrooms were probably the biggest disappointment for me. There isn't really much going on and it just feels like another generic liminal space level that you've seen a hundred times already. It's a shame because the visuals are really good, but the game doesn't really do much with them. It lacks actual horror and some interesting moments so in the end it just felt like another pretty looking surreal game without much substance.

So... yep, another liminal game except this one, it is MOSTLY all very well designed but there were times that I was going in circles though and could had surely shed a good hour of my playtime! The visuals and sound design are truly the highlights of this game, making it such an eerie exploration while moving to your next "objective". Great liminal space walking sim. i enjoyed it

It's good. I'm a huge fan of pool rooms. I love walking around and looking at them, so I got what I wanted out of this one. That's why it's a thumbs up. It's not perfect. It's a little bit meandering on the pool rooms. You're inevitably going to get lost and frustrated, because the rooms are so similar to each other, and are designed to make you walk in circles. This would be fine if there were more interesting set pieces, or something to do in each room. But because the rooms are so similar, and you get lost so often, you will get tired of the pools. The game will put you in another aesthetic for about five minutes, and then it'll throw you back into the pools. This happens over and over. It's especially frustrating for me because I love pool rooms, but there needs to be at least some more variation in the design of these rooms.

Liminal Shift is not just another Backrooms game for the sake of being a Backrooms game. It offers genuinely artistic set pieces and has a very satisfying art direction. If you liked The Complex games, this is definitely a game for you. My only issue with the game is that the Pools section felt a bit too long for my taste. It wasn't bad in any way, but after seeing pool environments for a certain amount of time, I started to feel a little anxious and was really eager to see some different types of environments. Maybe that was intentional, and I just didn't pick up on it. That said, the atmosphere in this game is excellent. You really get the feeling that these environments are like living, breathing organisms with a will of their own. There's something deeply unsettling about the way the game makes its spaces feel alive. If you're into Backrooms media, you owe it to yourself to play this game.
