About Lootbox Lyfe

Lootbox Lyfe is a Metroidvania with Movement Option Progression. Save your species through exploring an interconnected world riddled with platforming obstacles. Unlock new areas as you obtain new movement options.

  • Make use of tight movement skills to blast through the world at top speed.
  • Explore 11 meticulously crafted areas, ranging from a mountainside rebels base, to a garden infested with lootbox-induced fungi trees.
  • Collect hidden coins to purchase lootboxes and unlock hats with special powerups.
  • Customize your looks with different outfits and colors.
  • Explore a non-linear world with many possible paths. You playthrough will almost certainly differ from that of a friend.
  • 5-8 hours of gameplay to beat the game, with even more if you choose to 100% it.
  • Speedrun-specific mode to facilitate the grind to become the best.
  • Many different ways of play with numerous modes.

You play as Liam Cappello, the last Xoobotl in existence. You wake up from a long slumber only to see the world you once loved is in ruins. The culprit of this calamity? Lootboxes.

Shadowleaf Irvine introduced Lootboxes to Liam's species, and soon enough, everyone was addicted to them. Slowly, Xoobotls stopped spending money on items essential to life such as food, and water. It was soon after that bodies started dropping.

Is there a way to bring the species back to its past glory? Or is this world forever in ruins due to Shadowleaf's monopolistic endeavour?

A violation of pixel graphics, feels bad to play, lacks basic options. First time I ever refunded a game on Steam. Don't want this in my library, lol.

Quick Score: 3/5 Notes: -Banger Soundtrack -Interesting world -Decent visuals -Movement is unique, though a bit clunky at times. -Level design isn't the best or all that interesting, but it is decent enough -Metroidvania, but you are given a very rough map, which makes navigation and looking for collectibles a bit annoying -Difficulty is on the lower end

Lootbox Lyfe is a movement-driven Metroidvania that builds its identity around sharp traversal, open-ended exploration, and a satirical take on modern gaming culture. Developed by Conradical Games and published by Conradical Games alongside Radhood Publishing, the game places players in a strange post-apocalyptic world shaped by an obsession with loot boxes. Rather than leaning heavily on combat or narrative spectacle, it commits almost entirely to platforming precision and spatial mastery, offering an experience that feels focused, skill-based, and intentionally minimalist in its mechanics. At the center of Lootbox Lyfe is an exploration loop driven by ability-based progression. You play as the last survivor of a species that destroyed itself through addiction to randomized rewards, a premise that sets a tongue-in-cheek tone without dominating the gameplay. Advancement comes from discovering loot boxes scattered throughout the world, each granting a new movement ability rather than cosmetic items or stat boosts. Wall jumps, dashes, and other traversal tools dramatically expand how you navigate the environment, turning previously unreachable spaces into new routes and encouraging …

How to make a badly designed metroidvania : - Make a non interactible map so that you don't know where you are at all times - Make sure the player can go where he wants but not quite because he needs powerups, but don't indicate in any way where to find said powerups - Ensure you have some hard to navigate zones with nothing at the end but a "Sorry, you don't have the necessary powerup to continue, come back later !". Double points if you put another one of those gates when the player comes back there with the first powerup (Hello Ruins !) - Give a glimpse of collectibles everywhere where the player doesn't have the powerup yet. Not a new zone, or even a challenging room. No, just the collectible behind a powerup wall, in plain sight, to force the player to backtrack, again and again. Of course, with no way to indicate where it is, why would you help your player with that ? And as a separate grief, the movement is floaty and troublesome with inertia. Apart from that, it's an OK game, on the challenging side but not too hard, there's even fast travel (but you first need the map ... Hello Ruins !)
