About Machiavelli

There are some deals you just can’t shake; you made one with a trickster demon… and they have demands. Granted immortality, you must navigate through tough decisions in order to build the perfect civilization. Each time you rule, your kingdom will fall - it is up to you to take what you learn about governing forward into the next era!All the while, the dealmaking-demon will come knocking at your citadel walls-- asking for his fair share… You will face varied, unrelenting challenges combined with the collapse-and-start-over mechanic that will keep you hooked into a cycle of rise and fall.
Machiavelli combines classic rogue-lite progression with the gameplay of a city builder. Featuring rewarding resource-management, randomized objectives and events, a sprawling skill tree, in-depth statistics on your civilization’s Order, grid-based city building, and a world where snap-decisions determine a kingdom’s rise or collapse. Not to mention, the demon’s insatiable desire for the souls of your citizens. Balance benevolence and cruelty in this fast-paced, replayable game of whimsy and wrath.
  • Design and plan your civilization with several buildings to meet the needs of your denizens.
  • Maintain Order by balancing 4 different civilization stats.
  • Command a suite of Royal Decrees and Royal Scales.
  • Encounter a multitude of objectives and events as your kingdom grows.
  • Unlock over 30 nodes on the Soul Tree.
  • Uphold your end of the deal by delivering to the demon a constant stream of souls from your denizens…

Very cool to see the game design program that I studied under continue to improve, grow, and cultivate killer talent! I was definitely not expecting anything close to this level of production quality and I was very impressed. The sound design, the animations and art style, everything is very clean and stylized, and not only coherent but professional and high quality! I was impressed most by the visually appealing cutscenes and the quality of the audio and voiceovers. The tutorial is great, the prospect of one day beating Velli after the scripted loss, improving run after run and unlocking upgrades, creates a great psychological reward system to keep players invested and engaged. Every loss is temporary, and every run is progress. But the player is also rewarded for smart gameplay and thinking ahead - the more souls they can collect, the faster they can upgrade and get closer to winning. For people that like city-builders or even just strategy games, this is a knockout experience. Very well done!

A very interesting Roguelite! Controls could be better and the tutorial could be better structured but the art and narration is great, it’s a really cool concept, and I had fun playing it! Also wish the years went by slightly slower, or there was some sort of action economy thing that determined how time passed, the game was more difficult due to weird frame buffering that made it hard to do things I wanted to do in time. Not sure it’s fully fleshed out in some areas, keeping morale high seems… practically impossible while maintaining satiation, housing, and workers is relatively simple. But all said: it’s a great little game for being free with a really cool concept!

9/10 Mechanics are good, art is good, sound is good. Feel like could be fleshed out a little more. If you enjoy resource games give it a go!

I have had a great time playing this game! The roguelike aspect keeps the stakes high, and the developers have provided a variety of events that keep the game fresh upon replaying. I especially have enjoyed the skill tree. Unlocking new elements with each run offers the opportunity for developing new strategies as well. Definitely recommend!
