A Mage Reborn

Ever play D&D and get railroaded by your DM hardcore? Its like that, despite whatever you do, what the DM wants to happen happens regardless. And while I understand games are limited in what they can do, this felt like an exercise in futility, and while I'm sure some folks will enjoy that aspect, I do not. So not for me, having been a fan of fighting against the odds stories, this one was remarkably... unsatisfying in whatever it wanted to convey. It says Book one, I have no desire to read the second considering the ending. But make your own decisions and decide if its worth it, for me I'd say skip this one.

It's a nah for me. This should have either been a complete story, or a longer first book. Where the story ends in terms of pacing feels like a middle - no matter what choices you make, you arrive at the same point. The first book in the series should(!) have a resolution, even in the non-interactive genre. And if you compel a reader to make all of the many choices - then you should really repay them with something. There is no hook for me either, nothing that makes me wonder what happens next. I think it's due to how awkwardly the romance is paced. It doesn't read like a flow of a growing affection but like a series of jump-cuts. The way it was introduced seemed very sudden, at least during my playthrough. I was sure that the characters were supposed to be platonic friends, because I didn't notice any build-up until I suddenly got an option to kiss one of them. Some drama happened; then, suddenly, there is an option to profess your love to the person. It also states that you've known the person for a few years, and that you had some sweet memories with them. Great, I guess. But it does nothing to me as a reader. 7.5/10 the good: -the writing is amazing -immersive -good characters -great original plot -creative chapter layout* the bad: -*creative sure, but i dont think it works for this book -too short, why are we only spending milliseconds in some of the most important moments of our lives??? its an Interactive Fiction... LET ME INTERACT WITH IT -not much choice for the mc's personality -stat management is blunt and not well done imo -we barely talked to the other main characters (but i think this is more of an issue of the book's overall length, too much information crammed into a short game) the good outweighs the bad by 75% (if that's how the math works idk) so yeah, its good but not great

I really like this, I dont want to call it a game so probably a choice bases digital novel? idk but i really enjoyed it and I hope there will be more
