About malViolence - Definitive Edition
Made within a month for NaNoRenO 2023. Now enhanced for Steam!

I, the great Cautionne, Disciple of Danger and Emperor of MalViolence, am holding you as my latest test subject.
'Course, you trespassed on my lair first, so it’s not like you can complain.

I get it. You wanted something from me. Or your boss did. Or your boss’s boss did.
So how about we make a deal?

You solve my escape rooms, do a little lab work, consult on a deadly trap or two, and I'll let you leave scot-free. Doesn't that sound nice?
But before you go, let me give you some advice...

Don't make any mistakes.
Because if you do - you're not gonna like what happens next.

- A gripping, villainous scenario written by Mado, Of The Devil's Brian Mulholland, and Z.
- Escape rooms with several brain-bending puzzles, crafted by speck and Artificial Selection's KigyoDev.
- 3 main endings and even more bad endings.
- Animated, speaking CGs: all drawn by Mado!
- Partial voice-acting by the talented Carrick Inabnett and Vyn Vox, with the direction of Very Berry Studio's Phebe Fabacher!
- Gorgeous, rendered backgrounds by Reina!
- A slick UI by spicaze!
- An 100% original soundtrack by Melo-dii and Doran.
- Audio mastering and mixing by Cooking Companions' D.ray!
- An eye-catching trailer by Mado and jennymhulla!
- 1 cute mad scientist with a hidden agenda…
(This project also features tools by dmochas, tofurocks, wattson, glsuoa, and npckc.)

Had been on a big visual novel kick recently and found a love for them. The developer Mado of Team malViolence had contacted me to give their game a try. The art looked right up my ally and I especially love the design and look of our sweet baby bean Cautionne so decided on giving the game a play. I'm not going to lie I do kind of dread doing puzzles cause I am not the best at them but my ego got the best of me and I picked normal mode for the puzzles and they sure as heck kicked my butt. I honestly had no game plan on any of them and just got lucky in solving the puzzles in my play through. I really enjoyed the art style and the characters of the game. It was cool to have meet them and the VAs were really cool and really well voiced. The puzzles I could see would be fun for those who were looking for that kind of challenge but i believe that was all in my fault for picking a difficulty all to high for me haha. My only want from the game was more story telling. As I played just this version first I think that's all this game lacked but Overall I would recommend this game to folks who enjoy puzzles.1 found this helpful
Good game. Pretty short, which could be seen as a bad or a good thing. Hopefully this ends up getting more attention, as it deserves it.
Was expecting a visual novel with some puzzles, and was very pleasantly surprised with a narrative puzzle game that could go toe to toe with Nancy Drew herself. Was playing on hard, and some of the puzzles completely stumped me which I was really happy about! I wanted to be challenged, and I certainly got it. I was really impressed by how every single puzzle in the game felt fresh, there is so much variety that there is no doubt that you will find a favorite puzzle. The voice work is superb, and it's the cherry on top of a lovely little story. It's one well worth experiencing yourself. Very excited to see where it goes from this point, and ready to cry so much at the prequel. Cautionne as your newest underling I would happily make you another pancakes. Evil style, of course.
The Devs, specifically Mado, reached out to me based on my appreciation of Visual Novels and asked if I wanted to check out the malViolence, citing it as a sci-fi, puzzle based, visual novel. What I found was an expertly crafted puzzle game with a short, yet highly intriguing story with hints of the dystopic world wrapped around it. For those who enjoy solving complex puzzles, you can raise the difficulty to your standards. For the rest of us, normal was brain-straining enough and easy should suit someone who wants to focus on the story. The devs were kind enough to throw in a skip button as well...which I regret to say I did use, ONLY ONCE! The character writing was fantastic, the partial voice acting was superb, the art was charming from start to finish and I was sad to find myself at the end so soon! I'm amazed they just give away an indie gem like this for FREE. I'm definitely looking forward playing the prequel and the sequel soon!

The escape rooms are fairly challenging and I loved the story and how the characters, especially Cautionne , talked. The story, though it was right in being short, felt me wanting more.
