eeeeeeh I've been waffling on this review for a bit, but I think I'm settling on DNR because even though I mostly enjoyed it, I don't want anyone just stumbling into this game. Some of the Steam descriptions feel inaccurate and this is the sort of game that people should avoid unless they know it's their cup of tea. TL;DR - 'Dead Wishes' is more akin to games like 'Boyfriend to Death' than 'Doki Doki Literature Club' Dead Wishes poses an interesting dilemma in that the game is better spoiler-free (that first romance hits you like a bag of bricks), BUT there are some pretty significant and needed content warnings. The description in Steam says that it just 'references' some stuff, but if you are going to play this game (especially if you want to get the true ending because you need to complete all the romances), know that it deals VERY explicitly with
Sexual Assault and Coercion
,
Murder
,
Violence and Gore
,
Cannibalism
, and basically
every type of domestic abuse there is
. So like, yeah. Obviously not for everyone. All that being said--of these types of game, Dead Wishes is…

If you buy this game you get 12 games in one. Most of the romances are very dark and toxic but surprisingly there are also some routes that end fairly normal. Not all routes were up my alley but there were clearly several that I enjoyed a lot, so I definitely recommend this game for lovers of dark otome.

Updated review after fully completing the game: Absolutely amazing. I've never felt such a mix of unfiltered loathing toward some characters while being fully willing to die for others. Great stories, great characterization for everyone (including the atrocious ones, but that does NOT excuse them being themselves ohoh no!), loved the art, definitely would've paid more for it if it was asked of me. And, uh... the thing about the trigger warnings holds up now. Extremely. If Dead Dove was a tag on steam, this game would be the reason. Worth the trauma, but *please* be careful. Anyway you should totally play-! (review from 6 initial hours of gameplay) This is a very good game. I've only completed 2 storylines and I'm already invested. Granted, if you do decide to play, MIND THE WARNINGS. They are definitely accurate... The story I've most recently completed was pretty triggering but it also made me feel a lot better about my trauma and made me feel like I was healing with the character. Definitely my favorite character and story so far. The music design is pretty good, the art is lovely, the choices you make actually matter (a lot of choice based games seem to forget that nowadays...…

A wonderful game! A bit sweeter than I expected. And I think they could have played with the underlying darkness more. But it was still a good and well-written game. It ended just when it was getting good --although I may not have the same sense of what a good ending is as other people. Yet, I adored the ending all the same. A certain someone's manipulations was a bit rushed towards the end, I expected a more step-by-step approach... but I expected the ending non the less. I can't say if this game have more than one ending, as I only played it once thus far. And I cannot see myself wanting to change my choices. Everything turned out wonderfully in my somewhat twisted opinion. It's a good game. I just wish that it was longer, and with a more long-term show of the consequences of your choices, for better or worse. And I tend to like the 'for worse', provided you don't die, obviously. Anyway... A game worth buying, and playing.
