About Maniac Mind

A psychotic artificial intelligence has seized control of the land, twisting creatures and men to its will. Towns burn, dungeons overflow with corrupted beasts, and strange monoliths hint at gateways to worlds beyond. You are one of the few who have escaped its grasp.
Explore towns, delve into dungeons, and travel across distant realms in search of the knowledge and strength needed to confront the Maniac Mind. Speak with townsfolk for clues, gather weapons and armor, and survive the dangers of the wilds.Features:
 • Authentic late-80s CRPG style - chunky pixels, tile-based exploration, and classic keyboard/gamepad controls.
 • CGA 2-bit 4 color graphics with optional CGA color modes.
 • Explore towns, dungeons, and four distinct worlds.
 • Talk to NPCs for cryptic hints and story fragments.
 • Turn-based combat against twisted beasts and mechanical horrors.
 • No modern handholding - learn the world by playing, not by quest markers.
 • Casual, Classic, and Hardcore difficulty modes.
TL;DR : An Ultima-like retro CRPG with tile-based exploration, towns, dungeons, and turn-based combat built in the authentic style of the late 80s.
Love RPG? Make sure to Follow my Curator Page for plenty more!
If you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of late 80s rpgs, this game will please you. It is very reminiscent of the early games of the Ultima series. GOOD: ✔️Huge world and not just one ✔️80s atmosphere ✔️Hard start (every fight and piece of equipment is important) ✔️Possibility to take revenge on AI (for all the wrong answers, pictures...) BAD: ❌No story ❌No quests ❌4 colors - not enough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDJJFKcl6GY
And don't forget to Subscribe to my Youtube

Join my Steam Group
This is a review of version 1.1.3. The previous review of 1.1.2 was negative. The developer addressed many bugs and early game issues, making the game much more accessible, especially at start. This is a cross between Ultima II and Ultima III, where battles and a party of 3 look more like Ultima III, while the adventuring is more Ultima II. Conversations are one-liners, for example. Weaponry and armor are definitely inspired by Ultima II (armors being essentially carbon copies). Dungeon design is quite nice. The game is not too long once you get some items that help, maybe a dozen hours. The ending is currently underwhelming. If you want something close to what the early Ultimas were, with a few twists, get it. It'll scratch an itch. Hopefully the dev can add a few more tweaks and make the story more unique. Pros: Dungeon design Small party Music Cons: Story too close to Ultima III for comfort Equipment too close to Ultima II Hints: Buy spear from town asap Experiment with different CGA color schemes if you hate the classic cyan/magenta like I do

After playing the new update, I can say this game is fun. I got to exploring every nook and cranny and I am enjoying it! :D Still got a way to go to beat the game. *dungeons are long and fun to explore. When getting the energy weapons it's like that movie "Krull" where the main character pulls an ancient weapon from a lava pool. I wonder if the developer was watching "Krull" while making the game. *weapons have a strength number next to them to indicate which is better which i really appreciate. *the starting game and dungeon doesn't have the difficult monsters. *the weapons upgrades really make you feel like you're achieving something throughout the levels. What I really like is the fact you can get a flamethrower and a rifle/blaster. XD I feel like Ash from "Evil Dead."

A neat RPG, mostly channeling the early Ultimas (particularly Ultima III). It has minimal story but a few of the NPCs do mention useful things (sadly most of them don't) It is a bit buggy - don't board one of the beached ships else you won't be able to get out; skill points (used to activate skills) can go very negative when climbing over mountains. As with a lot of classic-style RPGs the difficulty starts off quite tricky, but becomes pretty simple once you've upgraded your characters. It took me around 9 hours to complete with all the achievements, which was still a bit longer than the game entirely justified - the main issue is that the later dungeons don't really add anything new, as you've seen all the features and monsters a lot sooner. Overall though, I did enjoy my time with the game, and would recommend it to others with nostalgia for the early era of CRPGs
