METAL GEAR & METAL GEAR 2: Solid Snake

good thing this comes with MGS1, otherwise i may not be able to recommend it dont get me wrong, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is absolutely worth playing for any fan of the series, the game is enjoyable despite the somewhat dated controls, the story is relevant to the canon and somewhat ambitious for the time, also A LOT of its ideas and set pieces were reused in MGS1, so its cool to see them being implemented for the first time here, its almost like a demake of MGS1, also while its possible i dont recommend playing this with 0 kills or minimal kills, save yourself the headache, the game still have a few annoying things, the guards cone of vision is deceptively wide and the gameplay is not as refined as MGS1, avoid detection but punch away, youll have a more enjoyable time the real problem is Metal Gear, the original game, it is ANCIENT and its mechanics have become considerably outdated, understandably so, being one of the very first stealth games ever, however the end result is stiff controls, simplistic bosses, literally tunnel vision guards (they can only see in a line towards where they are facing) and to top it all off, the story isnt really anything to write home about, and h…

Definitely a fun, nostalgic time. There's not really much I can say that's going to sway anyone who isn't into this sort of top-down game with sneaking and shooting to go ahead and give it a shot, so that's not the point here. Really, the only point is "knowing what these games are, did they do a good job with them, and do they hold up?" For the first point, yeah. The only gripe I have with it is that you can't just borderless fullscreen either of them, and if you try fullscreen it gets very wonky with alt-tab and in the end it's best just not to bother. If that's a negative for you or something you don't care about is very much up to you. As for "do they hold up", unfortunately I'm not the person to ask, there. I played the originals and since they give almost the same experience (since they're almost the same games) I'm inclined to think positively. I will note that the save system on them is sort of ass, and you need to be prepared for that. I don't remember if the old password system had the same problems, but it's basically like you'll pass an invisible checkpoint from time to time, which isn't necessarily based on major in-game milestones like "just beat a boss" or s…

Fantastic, hit of nostalgia and happy 100%. Sadly I wish they had put more effort in terms of modern achievements as I would have explored both games even more rather than go the "efficient" route. I had no issues but I wish It allowed me to select resolution as steam menu was too small and everything was enormous making reading a guide when I got stuck in Metal gear 2 quite the challenge. Despite the obstacles, this is an easy yes for me.

MG1 is ok, mainly play as a curiosity if you want to see how it all started. MG2 is pretty good though, really laid the foundation for the series, so I recommend playing that at least. MGS1 is basically MG2 in 3d with cinematic cutscenes and voice acting. For both games it helps to have a map handy do see where you can go with different key cards.

its actually way better than youd think of a game this old and if you play through them both with guides it doesnt take long either, if you wanna play the newer metal gear games this should definetly be played first
