Mini Ghost

Fran puts out some great games. Mini Ghost is no exception to this. If you want a simple MSX style metriodvania...here you go. But there is something that needs to be mentioned: the game seems to be buggy. XP does nothing at the start. I read that it either gives or heals 1 HP. It did neither for me, until I got the leaf. Thankfully the leaf shows up before things start to ramp up...but that is still an issue that should be addressed. Usually bugs like this cause me to thumbs down, but there is still good enough in this one to get around it. Oh and it is $2.

First of all I need to make clear, that the whole 13 hours in this game I didn't only spend with the basic game: most of the time I did make own characters here (Darkwing Duck for example). I can highly recommend this little masterpiece here to every real retro-fan! The creator of this game itself seems to be obviously in love with retro-works! It reminds me graphic-wise of those old gaming computers (MSX?) and because of those simple pixel-looks it's really easy to paint there your own characters. You should better avoid black colors though, because most of the backgrounds in this game are pretty dark, the main one even pitch-black with some blue patterns. Something you will find in the main game is the necessarity to find and/or buy objects for reaching other areas (like you maybe remember from the earlier Zelda games). Best thing is: you are even able to make your own levels thanks to the editor! So even after completing this game I'm happy to try out the level-creations in this workshop-community. Which leads me unfortunately to a minus-point of this fun game-experience: the preview option in the workshop doesn't work anymore and the developer of this game doesn't feel like fix…

Short and simple metroidvania. You can finish it in about 2 hours and it's only 2 bucks. Really not a lot to say about it.

This is a soft recommend. It’s an NES-style game in the vein of old-school Metroid, with similar difficulty but far less obtuse, aside from one or two secrets. It should take around 3–5 hours to 100%, and it has a manageable map for a Metroidvania (or “microvania”).

It's a Metroidvania, with retro graphics and sound, tight controls, nice gradual progression, and that's before even mentioning the extra stuff that I haven't look at (designing your own sprites and levels, multiplayer etc). For such a low price it's definitely recommended to anyone who likes this kind of game. I finished it in 2-3 hours but I have no complaints.

Fun retro-styled metroidvania. If you've played the game that this is based off of, you'll most likely enjoy this one as well. If you've never played it, you can very much still enjoy this game, too.
