About N0-V4

✦ AI summary

N0-V4 is a darkly comedic platformer where you control a robot undergoing increasingly absurd and sadistic experiments designed by a mad scientist, racing against roombas and navigating magnet-filled chambers to prove your humanity. With multiple endings, secret routes, relentless fourth-wall breaks, and a surprisingly charming mad scientist obsessed with obedience, it's a short but hilarious descent into mechanical chaos that rewards skilled play and curiosity.

✦ AI summary

N0-V4 is a creative and interactive fiction game with varied, inventive puzzles that players find engaging and unique, but it has a significant technical flaw where it changes your desktop background to purple and fails to restore it properly upon exit, requiring a PC restart to fix. Players praise the imaginative premise, diverse puzzle types, and overall creativity, though the background issue is frustrating enough that some consider it a major drawback.

Novel Nova is a strange little game and I think that is exactly what makes it stand out. I start with an email from an unknown sender and a zip file containing an exe, with the game immediately asking whether I am human or a robot. From there I play as N0 V4, a robot created by Dr. Mari Machina and put through a series of bizarre tests before the World Robot Conference. I like the way it starts because it feels more like I am opening something I probably should not be opening. The tests are probably the best part for me because they are all different. One has me racing a Roomba, another puts me in a room full of magnets and there is also a chemistry based sliding section. None of these are particularly complicated, but they keep the game from feeling like one long repeated puzzle. I also like how the results of the tests actually matter. My performance can lead me towards different endings, so I have a reason to try again and see what happens when I make different choices. The fourth wall stuff is probably what gives Novel Nova most of its personality. The game knows that I am playing a game and it constantly plays around with that idea. Sometimes it is funny and ridiculous, whil…
