A classic Point&Click game inspired by the famous H.P. Lovecraft's novel The Shadow over Innsmouth. The story starts with a trip through New England, where you hear a rumor of an attack in Innsmouth, followed by a massive smuggling operation in that fishing town. A quintessential Lovecraft tale told with respect to the source. The first part of the game basically shouts "Monkey Island", giving off a more light-hearted vibe, with the player comically stranded in a provincial town, fumbling through bits and pieces about the main mystery. The second part is the one that really stands out, with a looming dark atmosphere of lovely soundscapes, decent voice acting and a moody pixel setting. Walking through Innsmouth feels like a tense, nightmarish experience, building adequate pacing in my opinion. The puzzles were mostly logical and at times require fast clicking through, which doesn't feel very characteristic of the adventure genre. However, they tie well with the storytelling and after a handful of tries they should be solvable. A con for me would be some lazy pixel art here and there that subtracts from the overall immersion. For example, in the Zadok sequence where you get to see the main character close-up, it looks like it was quickly drawn in MS Draw and lasts for quite a while. I took a while to get into this game because of some negative reviews, but I'm pleasantly surprised. It's a fairly short (4 hours) adventure game that won't surprise you until the very end, where the infamous QTEs appear. However, I think they're justified by the story, and I didn't have any major problems navigating them. The maze, which some people struggle with, was incredibly simple; all you had to do was follow the instructions. A solid 6/10. If it goes on sale, it would be a shame not to give this game a chance.

Lovecraft point and click adaptation using the Monkey Island style interface. Old-school graphics, with full voice acting and soundtrack. Challenging puzzles, dialogue and item based. You can die at several points, but the game creates an autosave just before. I didn't find any softlocks. Warning - the final section of the game contains a lot of difficult reaction tests, I needed to check a YouTube playthrough to work out how to beat them.
