Nights of Azure

this game is wonderful, a hidden gem that very few people know about!! one of the best jrpgs i’ve ever played, and it’s real time action hack'n'slash with no turn based combat or slow gameplay at all. on top of that the story is really good, it keeps your attention the whole time and carries this feeling of mystery until the very end.. and by the way there are around five different endings depending on how you play and whether or not you complete certain side quests that change the main outcome. it’s a completely linear game with a campaign that lasts around 15-20 hours, there are several different maps that you unlock as you progress through the story, each one with diverse landscapes, environments and enemies, and there are also many creative and unique bosses that are really fun to fight!! the final boss is challenging and even forces you to take a small break from the campaign and grind some exp to make the fight easier, but it’s nothing too difficult or time consuming, the max level is only 10 and you can reach it pretty quickly once you get to the endgame, before the final boss, in around two hours you can already hit max level by replaying endgame maps and bosses that give …

I have been thinking for a few days on how to write this review, but when you love something so much, it's impossible to do it proper justice. To me, this game is a wonderful piece of art, a statement and example of how touching and inspiring games can be. In truth, it's not for everyone. If you cannot accept the idea of two girls falling in love, then you won't like it. But if you have that special kind of sensitivity in you, then this game may allow you to feel something unique. And the feelings.. they are pure, innocent and selfless. It really grew in me, until the very end, and the endings, as the whole journey, were incredibly emotional. Wonderful story is one part, but it is complemented by perfect voice acting, beautiful songs (performed by voice actors), good music and exceptional costumes. You can tell this was made by a small team of passionate people. They perhaps didn't have a huge budget, but they had an incredibly strong, coherent and beautiful vision, which they realized successfuly. Surprisingly better than you would expect but can be dull too if you are hyped for some reason. Starts painfully slow however it's one of those games where you want to play more when you get closer to the ending. True ending was kinda obvious but the journey was fun, a bit repetitive though. It's definitely fine for hack'n'slash itch. Worth alone for the music, though it's expensive without a discount. Also, probably runs better on Linux than Windows. It's a Playstation port and they forgot to add a quit button. Alt+F4 or equivalent shortcut will be necessary. Overall, it's a 6/10 game. Fun though.

A bold experiment from Gust into the action game genre, but unfortunately did not go well. I had this game sitting in my collection for years now and decided to finally give it a try. I knew since the beginning this game was not really well received and I also did not play it until now because it did not interest me that much, but as a Gust games fan I always thought trying out their other titles that are not Atelier would be an interesting experience. Nights of Azure is very mediocre overall. Nothing really stands out and I simply could not force myself to keep playing anymore after 5 hours of gameplay. The story is very bland and not interesting, the characters are boring, graphics are average and the side quests are super generic. Gameplay is good and is hack and slash with summoning demons system. Soundtrack is great and the setting of the game is interesting, but the potential was greatly wasted with dull dungeons designs and repetitive structure. PC performance is good, but the port quality is very barebones, requiring some additional tweaks in the registry and controller reconfiguration. Should've listened to the reviews, from a technical point a total mess absolutely but there just isn't anything else redeeming other than the OST, it's sloppy, unfinished and boring. So many issues it's unreal that it got released.

Awesome game and one of the few out there similar to Castlevania Curse of Darkness. Really glad this one at least has the pre-order dlc baked into it.
