OverKill is yet another of literally hundreds of lazy amateur 2D retro top-down shooter/brawlers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. It's slapped together with GameMaker Studio, so you know it's going to be garbage, but at least the developer admitted their deficiency and openly confesses to using GMS... however, if they knew that the game simply wasn't up to scratch because they had no idea what they were doing and thus used GameMaker Studio, why would they then go ahead and pay the $100 to dump this garbage on Steam, where nobody wants it (see below for the comically bad player counts and user reception). It's a barebones, sloppy wave survival shooter where enemies come at you in large numbers from the edge of the screen so you have to shoot them... look, if you're actually looking at the Steam store for this game and saw this review, just go play Vampire Survivors like everyone else. That's the game you're looking for. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemp…4 found this helpful

OverKill is an indie top-down shooter developed and published by Kezarus that focuses on delivering pure arcade action without unnecessary complications. Built around the idea of fast-paced combat and constant progression, the game places players in control of a combat robot tasked with surviving increasingly dangerous encounters. Rather than relying on a lengthy story or cinematic presentation, it emphasizes quick gameplay sessions filled with enemy swarms, weapon experimentation, and score-chasing action. This straightforward approach gives the game a classic arcade feel that is easy to understand from the moment players begin. One of the most enjoyable aspects of OverKill is the amount of customization available. Players can assemble their preferred combat setup using a variety of weapons, special abilities, and robot chassis types. These options create meaningful differences in how battles unfold, allowing players to favor aggressive firepower, improved survivability, or more balanced builds. The customization system adds replay value because experimenting with different combinations can significantly alter combat strategies and encourage players to revisit stages using new ap…
My biggest issue is simple, the grind for this game is horrible. If you can't at least get one weapon for playing 2 matches then there is no incentive for me to keep playing and to experience the game. The audio is trash and the weapons sound pretty plain, not to mention the animation is horrible. Is it worth a dollar? No. There are free games that are loads better
