About Painkiller: Resurrection

William "Bill" Sherman has a problem - he's dead. Blown to pieces by his own C4 payload, which he wanted to eliminate a South American druglord with on behalf of some shady secret service people. The fact that he accidentally blew a bus full of innocent civilians into the Great Beyond has given rise to an all new problem - Hell doesn't exactly have any problems with claiming his soul. But now Bill's in purgatory and he's caught the eye of heaven's warriors. He's been offered a chance to make good the havoc he wrought using his quite special skills. And with weapons of course. Bizarre weapons. Crazy weapons...

The Game

Developed by Homegrown Games with former developers and modders from the previous Painkiller games in collaboration with Studio Med-Art and with a Catholic priest advising, Painkiller Resurrection combines rock-hard, no-frills action and an exciting story with painstakingly researched details. In a bizarre world influenced by medieval ideas about hell and purgatory and Dante's Inferno, the mixture of fast, straightforward levels and enormous, explorable regions containing the worst scum of any hell provides a unique gaming experience.

  • Unique storyline told using top quality "graphic novel" style cutscenes
  • Completely reworked "Painkiller 2.0 engine" with shader effects, weather systems, a superb physics engine, and ultra-fast netcode, including an anticheat system
  • The best weapons from all of the Painkiller titles + new, inventive tools of death
  • Classic-style FPS levels and enormous, explorable areas provide varied gameplay
  • Countless eSports-grade multiplayer modes with numerous new and updated maps

✦ AI summary

Painkiller Resurrection is a fan-made expansion with ambitious open-level design and story moments reminiscent of Max Payne, but it suffers from severe technical issues including broken pathfinding, frequent crashes, performance problems, and game-breaking bugs that make progression difficult or impossible. Players universally agree the game feels undercooked and poorly polished, with messy level design and a clunky healing system that forces tedious downtime during fast-paced combat, making it a frustrating experience even compared to other Painkiller titles.

As loading screen says, it's a fan made game. It should be free. It should also be avoided because of how many bugs, bad level design and performance drops it has. Any positives do not make this game worth a try.

Painkiller Resurrection introduces six new levels, open areas a lot of shooting and updated graphics from the ealier games. This expansion of Painkiller however, is pure hot garbage, plastered & duct taped and glued togheter. No pathfinding what so ever in the levels, just make sure to hit the "checkpoints". Levels feels like a damn pizza with a lot of ingredients and overly salted. Yeah and tasted like old squichy ham with nice overly made stinky cheese! The good things are the story with it's max payne like cutscenes and occationally some moments of fun can be found during combat and "it's puzzles". I did not encounter any crashes like some other talks about. Pros: +Open areas +Story, Cutscenes +Puzzle like Cons: -Messy levels, only six -buggy -getting stuck eventually Four cheese out of ten

(This review is mixed cause even after patching it using Patch 44 and the Megafix v2 mod to fix bugs and make it less tedious it still crashed a TON and it's very clear that it's very undercooked but still plays like any ol' Painkiller. BUT only get this if you're thinking about getting the full Painkiller collection during a sale since it's NOT worth it on it's own even on discount.) Painkiller: Resurrection is another Painkiller game but if it wasn't obvious by the reception, not NEARLY as well received as the original nor even Overdose. Developed by Homegrown Games, it follows William Sherman, a hitman who gets sent to purgatory as a car bomb meant for a drug lord accidentally also killed a bus full of innocent people. As such William gets sent to Purgatory and now has to fight his way for Redemption... no that's a different Painkiller game. It's a surprisingly compelling premise that's completely wasted cause looking more into it, this game absolutely had a TON of ideas and concepts that weren't fully realized for one reason or another. Gameplay wise, the gunplay and movement is actually like what you'd expect from Painkiller, featuring all the weapons from the original game…

Bruh, Heal system still makes you stand over dead bodies like a moron waiting for them to vanish – in a "fast-paced" shooter, that's unforgivable. Another trash heap in the Painkiller franchise. 0/10, go play actual Doom instead.
