PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls

This game is much better. I have only played two of the games in this franchise as of writing this review, On A Roll! and this Adventure City Calls game, and when i compare these two, this is easily the better one. The levels are more open in 3D environments that just feel better to play in. The different dog abilities now also have more of a purpose, with unique mini games attached to them. In the On A Roll! game, every ability was just an animation playing, but here you actually get to do something, like drive a firetruck or fly a helicopter or control a drone and so on. This is just superior. This game also feels less repetitive with the environments having more detail and variation in gameplay, like e.g. the better ability design. I left a positive review of On A Roll! because I thought it was a good game for small children, and I still do, this one is however much better, so if you do have a choice, pick this one. This game requires a controller so if you do not have a controller, you cannot play this game which is the biggest downside for this game, the gameplay is okay but the graphics feels old. My kids are 6 and 4. They love the game. Hoestly if you want to introduce your kids into gaming it is the best choice. Runs great on my steam deck. Highly recommended.

A PAW Patrol game ultimately has one goal: it has to be good for little kids to learn and enjoy gaming. Adventure City Calls fundamentally fails at that one singular goal on every conceivable level. Let me explain the gameplay for Adventure City Calls. It's a 2.5d game where you control two of the pups and have them follow a line of dog treats to the end of the level. Each level is broken up by having pup-specific actions such as Rubble drilling rocks in the way or Chase using his grappling hook. There is also a short runner level mini-game in each level where one player gets to move between three lanes to avoid obstacles for about 2 minutes. Sometimes, you unlock minigames too. That's it. That's the entire game. There are no obstacles in the levels. No fail states. No actual goals or anything to achieve. No exploration. Nothing. The pup-specific actions function like quick-time events but there's no timer so it's really just the game telling you to move the controller a certain way. As an adult, the game is just mind-numbingly boring but that's not really what's important here. What's important is why the game fails for kids.
