Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis

Played this on and off since 2014 and every once in a while I'll get nostalgic and redownload, but I stop downloading a few seconds later when I remember what NGS did to pso2. Why can't we get a pso2 classic with just the first 3 episodes when it peaked. Leaving the game in the state it's currently in is insane and truly sad.

I loved this game when it first came out. It's gameplay loop and it's combat were something worthwhile to me. And the story was one of the things that kept me coming back update after update. The initial PSO2 in this game is good, but after New Genesis things went down the toilet. Hardly any meat to the game anymore just cash shop slop week after week, month after month. I wish they had stopped at the end of the OG PSO2. If you're a free to play player, forget about owning nice things. This is a whale game now. Spend your money elsewhere.

As a new player, it was really nice to play, but the personal shop is locked behind premium so I couldn't sell to get more meseta, so I went to farm like crazy with little meseta the mobs gave :( , hope there's a better combat sector to farm tbh. One PSE burst to get around 40k meseta is a bit low, maybe 80k new spot to farm would be nice.

This short "review" is split into two parts New Genesis and the oringal. It took me 35 hours to rush through the story of New genesis and as of right now it okay. I love the combat of this version of the game and this is where most people will be. Now the old school version (will not be updated anymore and everything is there): To start off its an 100GB+ in download. The combat is in my personal thoughts a downgrade from new genesis (New genesis is the new version after all). The story is better (even though it pull the most bs crap out of no where). For players you will see them however most of them are at max level (100) there were few times i managed to join a group randomly less than 10. I managed to beat the entire story abd substory at level 75. One benefit to playing this version is getting costumes you cant get in new genesis and bringing it over to that version. Also in this version the exp and drop rate is boosted by 200% and the grind is still rough. Let me say I played New genesis and I caught up to the current story in 35 hours (first). Then I played the old school version after which is roughly over 100+hours. It a game thats fun casual.

Phantasy Star is for kids with internet access. Always has been, always will be. Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast made so much sense. Because all along there was simply no way for the average person to proceed in Phantasy Star without either a tips and tricks guide, or a studious attention to detail like trying to pass an exam. Sega in general was for kids with internet access. The same goes for Sonic 1, 2 and 3. Sonic without the level select code means starting from the beginning every time. Sonic is just no good without the level select code which is found in a magazine which is sold seperately. As for this one. What do you mean, you'll say, how is it hard when all you do is lock on and press the X button one time to do a 15 hit combo. How is that hard? I have an answer for you. The fighting isn't too hard, getting to the fights is where the real obstacle lies. Phantasy Star 2 NGS has a tutorial so long that most players don't even realize they are still in the tutorial. The main goal during the early parts of the game is to advance to the story missions.
