About Project: Nova

Greetings Engineer and Welcome Aboard the Nova Aurora

You enlisted to work aboard the Nova Aurora to ensure it completes its voyage, but years of training did not prepare you for the situation you would find yourself in. You awake from stasis to find yourself as the last Engineer onboard the ship, which is now in disarray. With the help of the ship AI it is up to you to try to repair the Nova Aurora and get it back on its voyage!
Project: Nova is a VR puzzle game centred around the feelings of astrophobia and isolation. As an Engineer it is your job to find and repair faults the ship has suffered on its voyage, using your wits and handy tools. Along the way you will need to be careful not to do more harm than good, and find out what exactly happened aboard while you were in stasis.

Key Features

Astrophobia and Isolation

The mood of Project: Nova focusses on the eeriness of an empty ship, devoid of life and humanity, and the fears of space and being lost amongst the stars.

Branching Narrative

As you progress through the ship you will be faced with certain puzzles and decisions which, depending on your outcome, will lead to alternative endings.
Do you have what it takes to save the Nova Aurora?
Experienced on the HP Reverb G2 using the Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality and also on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my full review here: https://youtu.be/HwASxhrNP9M This is a pretty short game. It took me about 45 minutes to complete the game. It's a space-themed walking simulator. The puzzles are very simple, maybe too simple. The narrative has a nice setup. I enjoyed it for what it is, but it feels more like a demo than a full game, which is funny because the game has a free demo as well. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 5090, I was getting a steady 90 fps on WMR on high settings. I did not experience any serious issues or bugs. You have full locomotion, teleportation, smooth and snap turning available as well. You can play comfortably seated (you'll need to adjust height in the settings, also make sure to turn off toggle for grab). Overall, I enjoyed exploring the Nova Aurora. I especially liked the zero gravity outside the ship part of the experience. However, the ending is just so abrupt, it makes me wonder if they ran out of funding. It has a nice setup, to what should be a much longer experience IMO. Rate 6/10.
Please note: …

It's a short game, not much to do and very limited interactions. 40 minutes for 9 bucks would be acceptable, but I can't recommend it due to technical issues. I have a 3080 Ti and a Vive Pro 2, but the game started freezing and blackscreening every time it presumably loaded assets in the airlocks. Eventually it got so bad I literally stood there for five minutes during the last sequence while the voice constantly told me to get to the bridge. The zero gravity part was cool, but my hand seemed to vibrate violently. Finally, after the drone sequence, my hands were turned 90 degrees. I managed to finish the game regardless, but come on. I also noticed the game ghosting. A further indicator for bad performance.

I just finished playing this game. I put the headset on and played through in one single session I enjoyed it so much. You can tell a lot of love and attention went into making this game. Well done to the development team.

Neat little game. It's short but I like the simplicity of it. I do wish it was longer and had more depth. I did enjoy it.
