I never got far in this series and almost got to the end part the first game. My friend played the second game and the pain that he went through was insane. I watched him traverse that maze and I for one didn't care as I liked the time period for it. Anyone remember the sliding cover boxes these games came in? I sure do and the good amount of 5.25 and 3.5 diskettes just to play them! Those were the days. WHEN GAMES WERE GAMES. No high end graphics, just amazing story lines and some fun to boot. Games are NOTHING like this now. Most of them are now mindless drivel filled with boredom. This series is not to be missed. Sorry to say but the combat is garbage in all of these games, even the fan remake of 2 which most consider has the best combat. Yikes. It's clunky, boring, frustrating, and highly repetitive. I know said fan remake of 2 lets you turn down the combat difficulty, but I don't think the other games let you. But even if they do, combat is a big point of these games and we sacrifice some of the puzzle gameplay of other PnC games of the era to have it. So making it a non-issue gives you a watered down game from both sides: the combat and puzzles. So you're left with games that have crappy combat and mediocre point and click gameplay. Play an action game for combat, and play other sierra classics like King's Quest for the PnC. Instead play Mage's Initiation and Quest for Infamy, both of which have combat similar to QfG but tolerable, and better PnC gameplay. If you really want to check these games out, playing them in Scummvm is a must. Be sure to enable fullscreen in its settings so the resolution isn't tiny. There's also fan patches for games 3-5 and the aforementioned fan remake of 2 so those are a must. Only 5 can't be played in scumm so you're forced to deal with its low res. One of the first RPGs I ever played, and still an all time favorite.
Way to relive the teenage nostalgia of our early and mid 90s. Recommended to all who have been there. Definitely not recommended if you haven't - you won't quite understand these - they were certainly a product of their time.
