honestly you can get these games for free from most places and can run it natively in command line, but these text adventures are honestly great fun.4 found this helpful
Played a lot when I was younger, but the server I was playing on wouldn't remember my save files. New goal is to finish this masterpiece, especially now that I can continue my current save file! Yay! You really do get lost in it. It helps me to keep paper handy to map out where I've been and where I am going. I will confess, I have some minor anxiety the concept of finishing this game. I was talking with someone the other day about Zork, because they had never heard of it (what!!) and they made an interesting comment: the way I described the game reminded them of Dungeons and Dragons. In a way, the concept of D&D and Zork have always been held in a similar space in my head. Growing up with Zork but having to constantly restart my save files meant that the world of Zork always remained open to my imagination not as a game but as a blank canvas with endless possibilities. So, similar to D&D, but the algorithm is the dungeon master. And you, the player, are locked into limited commands. Yet I have not discovered all the commands, or all the rooms, the characters, the obstacles, the puzzles.
