Sky Base Venus

I enjoyed playing the previous demo of Sky Base Venus for dozens of hours over the last year, After purchasing the full version and playing it for an hour, I can see that I will enjoy it even more. This game gives you the sense of a realistic scientific simulation with an algorithm that accurately portrays the results of your equipment, resource, and operating mode choices in terms of resource inventories and mission successes. So it is easy to spend hours lost in the quest to guide the base's construction and operation toward success while making it your own. Different levels of time compression keep the game right in step with your needs. There is a lot to learn and mastering all of that is part of what makes this game rewarding, but the new pop-up goals at the beginning of the game, get you off to a reasonable start while stepping you through most of the logistics. But it is always up to you how you play. Multiple game saving also gives you the flexibility to restart from one of your saved points if you encounter a "game over". This game provides value for the price. It is a technical puzzle game. I found it interesting but not fun. Good things: bug free not GPU intensive unique setting Things I expected to see from other games but didn't: getting to pick your crew so you identify with your intrepid Venusian scientists. an immersive experience in the clouds of Venus challenges which were more than "You just produced 1000 Kg of food, now grow 5000 Kg" ability to make your platform larger or make new ones

Tl;dr: very underrated, great quality gameplay, and super fun and satisfying. In full honesty, when I first opened this game I was concerned it would last a few hours and then get tiring or I'd reach an end game stage. Well after playing for over 5 hours (Steam's counter is wrong) in a single sitting, I'm writing this review to express my total wrongness, and because this game is now living rent free in my head. This is a game where you can quickly understand the core concepts, but to actually apply those concepts and create a functioning, self-sustaining, or just constantly reliable base of your dreams takes the perfect amount of difficulty. If you wanna break out a spreadsheet to be perfectly optimized, you can do that. If you're more chill and just want to play with different base configurations to achieve a result, that also works. The best way I can think of to describe the core gameplay is if the research and resource optimization (and space since it's Venus) aspects of Kerbal Space Program were combined with the optimization and logic aspects of factory games like Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere Program.
