Snowman Mo

I got a copy for free, but this game is honestly a real treat and well worth the price. It's cute, funny, and actually plays VERY solid in terms of the combat and controls for exploring. I wasn't expecting much going in, but I'm glad I did because the game pleasantly surprised me. I just wish I had heard about it sooner. EDIT: Just beat the game and it's just awesome from start to finish. Buy it now.

This is adorable on a general level--you're a cute snowman who makes friends with kids and penguins and defeats evil via snowball fight--but it's also quietly smart about poking at prejudice and how much grief and fear can twist you if you don't deal with them. Was not expecting a Solid Life Lesson at the end of a game of an animated snowman, but here we are. Gameplay-wise, I'm not wild about the fact that all controls are locked and it's a beast of a thing to find them again past the tutorial (so don't forget the moves because you can't really look them up). And the aiming mechanism was rough via trackpad, although it would likely be fine with a detached mouse. Other than that, the somewhat clunky animation is endearing and there are a ton of nooks and crannies in which to explore Easter eggs and a B-plot button hunt. A lot of fun to play and a lot of great characters to meet.

It's sad to say, but I fear I would have never heard of Snowman Mo had I not received a review copy from the devs. I'm so glad that I got to experience it in all it's weird, charming, and kooky glory. Pros: - The dialogue, story, and humor are very well written. I had many laugh out loud moments alongside times where I felt some genuine emotion for these lil guys. - The "combat" is fun to play and isn't too easy nor too tricky - The game is definitely short, but that makes it feel like it doesn't overstay its welcome. I feel if it was too much longer, the gameplay maybe would have felt tedious. Cons: - The graphics are very early 3DS feeling, which isn't my personal favorite. There isn't anything particularly wrong with them, and they get the job done, but they just didn't really jive with me. - The physics are a bit slippery. Yessss, I know these guys are made of ice, but that can be a bit frustrating to have as an ever-present mechanic. It's harder to make platforms or even to make a sharp turn in combat. - From what I can see, there is no way to go back into the world once you've beaten the story. A surprisingly adorable, funny, and heartwarming adventure following the journey of a little snowman named Mo trying to reunite with his little girl. The graphics are serviceable and give off a cartoony vibe, but I think what makes the game so effective is the sound. The use of silence is especially effective and the game is surprisingly capable of setting an eerie tone when it comes to isolation. Early on in Mo's adventure, I had rescued a penguin and came across a crossroad. Two signs pointed to Big Rocks and one sign pointed to Dead End (scary). In my hubris, I walked down toward the dead end only for the cheery music to stop, leaving Mo alone in the mountaintops with the sound of cold, rushing wind and the howling of the vast, dark gorges below. There was no longer any sign of Mo's penguin friend anywhere, at least until I found her again walking down the path I should have taken to begin with. The game is far from a horror game, but the effective use of silence to convey fear of being alone helps illustrate the game's main emphasis of friendship to overcome one's fears! snowman mo is a beautiful short game. you play as a little snowman named Mo who got seperated from the girl who made it. now you have to slide and roll through the snowy world to find her again. you meet a lot of companions along your way but also have to fight off a nasty amount of bullies. the controls are easy to get and make this game very fun. It perfectly catches the atmosphere of a snowy winter's day. the music is good, albeit very repetitive soon. there are a few secrets to discover, if you explore the world around you well enough. i had lots of fun talking to everybody and finding all the collectibles. well, almost all. sadly there doesn't seem to be a way ro collect the rest of those you've missed once you finish the game. so you have to collect all 48 of them in one go, which sucks, because i have found 45 and idk where the last 3 were and then i suddenly reached the end of the game and couldn't go back to get them. would be cool if there would be a new game + of some sorts, where you keep the collectibles you've discovered so far or a way to get back to places you've already been after you've finished the game. despite that, it's definitely a funny and cute little…
