About Song of the Deep
Song of the Deep is a metroidvania-style action-adventure game following a girl’s quest into the unknown to find her missing father. Combining discovery, skill, and suspense with an unforgettable narrative, this underwater journey will challenge players to explore, experiment, and skillfully navigate a vast ocean landscape.
Gameplay
Song of the Deep delivers unique gameplay in a tale of love, heartbreak, and triumph. Explore a fantastic non-linear interactive underwater world filled with more than 200 treasures to collect. Equip your submarine with 30 upgrades and 15-plus abilities to access new areas of the sea, and combine those abilities in surprising ways -- like catching a torpedo with your claw arm mechanism. Outwit, outmaneuver and battle creatures along the way, from lantern jellies to giant bosses like The Watcher.
Storyline
Merryn waits all night for her father to return from his fishing voyage. He never does. After a vivid dream showing her father trapped under the sea, Merryn is determined to save him. This unlikely heroine builds a small submarine from spare parts and sets off to rescue him. Along the way, she’ll make friends, discover lost civilizations and ruins, and upgrade her submarine to explore even deeper. The terrain and monsters of the deep are daunting, but Merryn’s courage, intelligence, and love for her father will help her overcome adversity.

A criminally underrated game made before the genre started to get red hot with myriad releases per year. I tend to think Ori and Hollow Knight overshadowed other games like this for whatever reasons. Play this game on intermediate if you want to go through it in a more streamlined way, don't hurt yourself advancing, and this becomes a beautiful Metroidvania that covers the sea like few others do. With 4K the visuals still hold up today. I started this a long time ago, and I thought hey let's get back into this one because I had always been meaning to do so but never found the time. It was a great decision. Only 27% of people have beaten the first boss, which kind of surprised me, but the opening has some freedom, so it's possible people got lost despite the narrative push. Keep playing. Because once you get torpedoes the game completely opens up. Just pay attention to the narration, and your intuition should do the rest with some time. I have as much fun playing this as any of the other top-tier games in the genre. It's a nice change to deep dive and get this kind of aesthetic for a fair price. The puzzles are fantastic as well and give it a solid level of depth that maybe the com…3 found this helpful

It has beautiful visuals, music, and a great atmosphere. While the map is quite diverse, the puzzles are pretty creative, and the combat is pretty fun, the game is held back by its repetitive nature and a buttload of bugs. Overall, it's a fun game and very easy to 100%.1 found this helpful
Fun game, the story is pretty good.
