About Soul Survivor: Trials of the Goddess
"Every season an Offering must be given to the Island, never to return - one Soul, a favored child of Irinia, in exchange to keep us all safe from evil...
Such is the nature of our Curse."
The elders tell a tale of this ancient island, humanity's birthplace, and of the Goddess Irinia who once watched over humankind.
They speak of the Goblins, the Beasts, the Dragons, and other progeny of the Three Goddesses - and of the peace that we all shared for so many generations.
But, what caused this harmony to fail?
Who or what is behind the Curse?
And why is humankind solely afflicted with this terrible fate?
You alone will venture to the island, not as an sacrifice, but as humanity's last hope of finding answers, and finally dispelling the Curse.
Good luck, worthy Soul!
Gameplay
Soul Survivor: Trials of the Goddess is a choices-matter, dungeon-crawler JRPG with roguelike and CRPG elements.
The gameplay features a unique "Take 3 Fight 3" mechanic in which both items and enemies are treated as a finite resource - you can take up to 3 "free" items per Area, and must fight 3 enemies in order to advance.
The player is allowed to choose which enemies to fight and encouraged to take the most advantageous battles based on their skills, equipment, and play style; however, only fighting weak enemies has its drawbacks, as there are powerful boss encounters awaiting every few stages!
Each Area is filled with secrets, unique environment interactions, and clues necessary to piece together the dark history surrounding the cursed island.
The journey is never the same twice - with map layouts, encounters, and item placements being shuffled every time a New Game is started! (with an optional mode to play without randomization)
While your quest will be extremely challenging, there are a wide variety of unlockable character upgrades to supplement the extensive level of customization provided to the player character. Should you lose all three of your starting Lives, your Soul will live on with the ability to carry over unlocked upgrades to the next save file.

Great take on the roguelike genre. Wonderful enemy sprites and easy to grasp mechanics. I can see myself spending a lot of time with this game.
I went in expecting a fun little indie roguelike, but Soul Survivor: Trials of the Goddess absolutely blew me away. The gameplay loop is tight – fast-paced combat, meaningful choices, and a steady ramp-up in challenge that feels super rewarding. Every run feels different thanks to the well-designed skill system and procedural encounters. And when you die (which you will), it never feels cheap — it just makes you want to jump back in and do better. The art style is gorgeous, with a cool blend of mythological and dark fantasy vibes. The goddess trials themselves are intense and super satisfying once you start mastering the mechanics. Oh, and the music? Chef’s kiss — dramatic when it needs to be, chill between fights, and really helps set the tone. It’s clear a lot of love went into this game. If you're a fan of Hades, Dead Cells, or any good action roguelike, Soul Survivor deserves a spot in your library. I didn’t expect to get hooked, but here I am at 2am saying “just one more run.” Highly recommend. Don’t sleep on this one!
Keeping with the themes of the early NES days of JRPGs, the 8-bit retro look and sprite work on the overworld, with the attention to detail of someone who is passionate about the genre works so well with this treat of a game. Twice I played this game on stream and went over my usual 2hr limit because I was just enjoying it that much. Some may look at it and think, "Oh, it's not that long." and they would be roughly correct. Though the length of the game is not what truly defines how you should measure this game. No, it is the high amounts of replayability. You can go through the game multiple times, trying different combinations of classes, skills, items, equipment and have unique playthroughs each time. Plus, with the difficulty you will find times that your build might not work and you have to start again. While it doesn't have a true-save deleting mechanic like other rogue-likes, instead opting for an honor-system where you can delete your save and start over or continue from your save and keep going with your build to focus on seeing the rest of the story. I feel like this makes it appeal for both those who do and those who do not like that hardcore aspect of starting over ev…
A good idea, executed in sort of a mediocre way. I don't dislike this game, but it's not a strong recommendation. The gameplay loop is spelled out pretty well in the store page. You enter an area, pick up three items, fight three enemies and move on. This eventually culminates in a boss fight, followed by your level resetting and repeat. It's not a bad gameplay loop, but the JRPG gameplay on display here isn't particularly special. The fact that you only have one character compounds the issue because the amount of choices you can make mid combat are fairly low. Usually other JRPGs with one character offset this issue by allowing multiple actions, having summons or other ways to spice up combat. Here most of my combat was spent playing defensively, frequently guarding and countering since it saves on chip damage. It's a shame because the actual out of combat stuff is generally pretty good. Figuring out enemy weaknesses, trying to optimize for exp while balancing resources and prepping for the next area. Everything else is serviceable. The art is okay but sort of lacking a consistent style and the music is...not great. Overall if you see the game on sale for a reasonable disco…
I wasn't sure what to think of this since it has so little reviews, but this isn't a low-quality RPG. I've had so much fun playing this so far and it really seems like it has a ton of replay value. the soundtrack is also amazing!!
Soul Survivor: Trails of the Goddess was a major surprise for me. Im not a fan of rouge like games but I feel this one pulled it off well. The leveling up, skills, and equipment really matter! Like how some upgrades increase your magic defense. I could really tell the difference after applying it. The take three items, skills, or equipment was a different touch and also very useful if you got that one thing you really liked. All I can say is if you enjoy rpg maker games give this one a go, it has the good combat with the oh sh*t factor of not wanting to die rouge feel.
