About Space Trench

WELCOME TO ALBET SALVAGE!

As a Salvage Crew Recovery Associate, your job is simple. Whenever we lose contact with a Salvage Crew, we send you in to collect whatever they've happened to leave behind. Normally, there's nothing to wory about, but just on the off chance you encounter some trouble, remember these tips.

SCRAP IS KEY

You have to navigate through derelict ships to collect scrap to fuel your survival. Scrap is your weapons and the ammunition that feeds them. Scrap is your blood and currency. Scrap is you and your enemy alike. Scrap is everything.

KEEP YOUR WORKSHOP CLEAN

The workshop is where you'll spend your scrap to purchase upgrades. There you can purchase unique weaponry or over 50+ distinct upgrades. Your workshop will be the heart of your operation, and crafting items there will be the key to your continued existance.

BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Your time working for Albet Salvage will lead you to seeing various unusual locales. From flooded maintenance chambers to swarming alien hives, it's best to be on your toes and always have an exit plan. Danger can often come unexpected and fast, especially in the dark, abandoned vessels you'll find yourself in, so be ready to act in a minute's notice or risk losing your life.

I won't say much about the graphics or sound, since you can get a pretty good idea from the trailer and the other reviews. If you can be okay with the very indie presentation, you will find a fun and challenging FPS with a lot of replayability. You can basically just grind levels for the many unlocks, and in doing so try many combinations of weapons and upgrades. Each run is going to be heavily shaped by the RNG and which upgrade options it offers you, but I've really enjoyed the variety of playstyles it forces you to adopt. Max run is 25 minutes long and you might die a bit, so most will be shorter. I pretty much always say this in reviews: it's not going to be for everyone. But if this is your niche, give it a try!

It is an impressive effort for a solo dev, that's something with which I can agree. The graphics, lighting, art direction and environment design are great. However, the gameplay itself has some issues that should be worked out or improved. "Danger can often come unexpected and fast" - Enemies will spawn behind you at any given moment, and you may have no warning at all that this is the case until you start taking damage. There is little to no positional or directional audio in the game, which is a must for notifying the player of encroaching threats. Instead, the game uses a generic roar for the shambler-like enemies that tells you little other than they have spawned. At times, the roar doesn't even play. In addition, enemies easily and often clip into each other, making it difficult to visualize how many opponents you may be facing. It also leads to confusion when you kill an enemy, but the foe inside it is still alive and attacks. Secondly, critical hit registration is inconsistent - you'll nail the same spot on an enemy type, getting one-shot criticals, then suddenly they stop functioning, and you have to pump 3 rounds into the same spot to kill the foe. Are critical hits a % …

Cute little game, surprisingly tense. Found a bug and the dev fixed it within a day.

As mentioned by another review, this is very similar to the scrap mode in RE7's dlc. It scratches a super specific itch and I hope the dev continues to put out updates, I love this kind of thing. For some reason the game sometimes stutters for me though.

It was more fun than I expected. It's a little slow in the beginning of the first map but for the price of a cup of coffee, I had a good time. I also really liked the main menu art. It's obviously a low budget game but that is fine. Also the flashlight was way stronger than I expected. I was thinking it was going to be one of those horror game flashlights where you can't see anything but no, it's a perfectly working flashlight and that is great. It also has an endless mode for those that want to break the game and push it to it's limits.

I like the atmosphere; the ships feel grimy and claustrophobic. Getting lost on some of the larger maps is just as dangerous as the aliens. Speaking of the aliens, they seem easy at first, but things can go south quickly. They flank you, you run out of bullets, etc. I've been enjoying the new update and am excited for the game's future!
