About Spider Land

A nuclear war was the best thing that ever happened to me.

In the aftermath of total annihilation, one man blossoms, finally set free from the shackles of morality. Spider Land is a visual novel about that man. Once a doomsday prepper, now a scavenger. Life is simple. Eat, sleep, maybe kill if it comes to that, repeat.During the day, you spend your time communicating with a disparate network of survivors. Nobody can see your face through the computer, and that's just how you like it.Come nightfall, you emerge, ready to make the most of what little this world has to offer. Choose from a myriad of landmarks to survey, all housing unique characters and dangers aplenty. Make decisions that will have far reaching implications. Maintain your grip on reality by any means necessary. Then, when the sun comes up, return to your bunker and sleep the events of the night off.

Just give a me a reason. All I need is a reason.

Spider Land presents the end of civilization from an unusually unsettling perspective. Instead of focusing on a heroic survivor desperate to restore humanity, the story follows a former doomsday prepper who discovers a strange sense of freedom after nuclear destruction wipes away normal society. Developed and published by Xavier Bell, the game uses its post-apocalyptic setting as the foundation for a psychological visual novel where survival, isolation, morality, and personal choice are closely connected. The protagonist is not necessarily someone players are expected to admire, and that uncomfortable relationship with the main character gives the story much of its personality. Life after the catastrophe follows a distinct day-and-night routine. During daylight hours, the protagonist remains relatively safe inside his bunker, where a computer provides a connection to a scattered network of survivors. These conversations become an important substitute for ordinary human interaction. The anonymity of online communication also fits the protagonist particularly well because other survivors cannot actually see who is sitting behind the screen. This creates opportunities for conversatio…

If you love stories about the human condition andd how the mind deteriorates through an apocalytic scenario, then this game is for you! There isn't much gameplay, and is played like a text adventure game, but it was still quite enjoyable.

Spider Land is a very unusual visual novel, and I liked how quickly it pulled me into its bleak post apocalyptic setting. I play as a former doomsday prepper who is now living as a scavenger after a nuclear war has destroyed the old world. The character spends the day communicating with other survivors and the night exploring dangerous landmarks, which creates a strange routine that I found surprisingly immersive. The gameplay is mostly based around choices, conversations and deciding where I want to investigate. During the day I can communicate with different survivors, then I head out at night to explore locations where I can meet new characters and encounter different dangers. I liked that the game makes the world feel larger through these conversations because I am learning about people without always seeing them directly. The decision making is easily my favorite part. My choices can affect what happens later, and the game gives me plenty of reasons to question whether I am making the right decision for my character. There is also a strong focus on maintaining his grip on reality, which adds another layer of tension to the story. I liked how the game makes me think about bot…
