I don't like writing bad reviews on anything. I always feel a little bit bad when I write them, even if the game is awful, but this game is different. I found Sweet Love by chance when my adblocker decided not to block ads like it was supposed too. It looked pretty interesting so I decided to give it a try. I love visual novels and it's been years since I've played a good one, so I figured one about dating ponies would be right up my alley, I love ponies, so yeah I thought I'd have a blast. However when I was looking at the description, I noticed something. At the very bottom of the page there was a disclaimer saying that artifical intelligence had been used to create the backgrounds for the game. For some reason, I decided to ignore that and bought the game anyways. I wish I didn't. Backgrounds are a huge thing in visual novels, they add to the story and immerse the player in the setting, and well, it's kind of hard to get immersed with how low-quality the backgrounds look. Sometimes it's not so obvious they're AI generated, but other times, it's so obvious that once you see it, you can't unsee it. As someone who commissions lots of art, I know that art costs money. Bu…

I absolutely love this game. It has a great amount of flavor, and the writing makes the world and characters feel engaging and lively. What really stands out is the choice system: being able to pick different paths that open up even more of the story and lead to different outcomes is simply amazing and refreshing. It makes each playthrough feel meaningful and encourages you to explore other routes to see what changes. The branching paths add a lot of replay value, and it’s exciting to see how your decisions shape the experience. I would Highly recommended if you enjoy choice-driven visual novels with depth and replayability.

⭐ Overall Rating: 7/10

Summary
[i]Sweet Love, while not without its imperfections, is a very clear labour of love that already sets itself apart from much of the adult visual novel space. Developed by a small four-person team and still seeing active development, it offers a surprisingly generous amount of content even in its current state. Individual routes are on the shorter side and not yet complete, but there’s already enough here to make the experience feel worthwhile if the game’s style and themes appeal to you. One of Sweet Love’s strongest elements is its art direction. This is a visual style rarely seen in adult games, and it immediately helps the title stand out from the crowd. Every character, however minor, is fully hand drawn, with expressive designs that feel deliberate and memorable rather than interchangeable. While this art style may not be to everyone’s taste, it’s clear that a great deal of love and intention has gone into every design, and it shows c…

I genuinely don't know if it's possible to fill out the entire galley in chapter 1, there are A LOT of choices that take you down different paths and I'm already finding myself looking at a guide. Like, there's a harlot path, and idk what that means because it's not a mentioned path in the game. I've already completed the game 4 times? Maybe 5 at most, but each run does have differences. The beginning is basically the same, just choose the dialogue for the path you want and then you'll start interacting with diff characters depending on your path and then from there depending on what you say and do with the multiple characters the game takes you to genuinely different outcomes. There's actually a decent amount of stuff to do in chapter 1 and I'm impressed. Am I $12 impressed? ehhhh, not really, Friendship with benefits is 10.99 if you want the pony content and that game has a lot more. Not to mention the updated art version/ Friends with Benefits 2, which admittedly is more expensive, but basically the same game. If you want to move away from Pony stuff I could drag on this review with easily two dozen+ cheaper games with more overall content. I want to recommend this game, so I wi…

It's imperfect and it's incomplete, but it has soul, it has hors, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the story. The writing feels way above average; this is obviously a labor of love. I want to find out the mystery of what's going on on the island, especially since the current version of the game basically ends of that cliffhanger of a conversation with Hotshots. I wasn't one of the people complaining about the old backgrounds, but the backgrounds in 1.14.3 are a significant step up, and are mostly stylistically consistent now. If I'd criticize it, I'd criticize the lack of polish around the opening; I'd look at prefilling the name, since there's official names for all the characters. There's a gallery but no music box mode, which would be appreciated if only for the music that plays over the Hotshots scene at the end of Day 1, which is hauntingly beautiful. A minor point: leaving the map in the game when most places are not accessible, with a non-diegetic red text warning, was probably the wrong choice.
