Tactical Command

[i] My Experience [/i] I've seen a couple of games over the years attempt hybrids like this - things like real-time strategy games that allow you to inhabit a solider and then turn into an FPS. However, I've never played any of the [b]Mount & Blade[/b] games, which are what most reviewers are comparing this title to. The game got its hooks in me fairly quickly, and for a time I was engaged with its loop. You run around in "world mode" collecting recruits from local villages. You'll then either attack (or be attacked), which pulls you into battle mode. In battle mode, you'll control one character (typically from a third person perspective), order your troops around, and deploy "abilities" like mortar strikes, etc. to reduce enemy strength to zero. Upon completing the battle you'll have the opportunity to promote and upgrade your troops, you'll gain some currency, and you might acquire new weaponry. You can spend some of this currency to unlock new abilities from time to time to deploy on the battlefield. Once you've gotten strong enough, you can storm enemy strongholds and claim them for yourself as well as upgrade various structures on the map. The battlefields were quite sparse…

This recommendation comes with a warning: The game feels very good, but the game is very unfinished and dead. You will hardly get more than 4-8h out of it. But until that point it makes alot of fun

Beat the whole shebang in just over 7 hours, with quite a bit of faffing around. It is very much Mount & Blade thrown into a blender with Battalion Wars. If you like either of those you'll feel right at home here. There's actually a surprising number of Mechs and Mech weapons. It is a short game, and QUITE rough around the edges, but has a lot of charm and hits that action-RTS sweet spot that is so absurdly rare. The game should be a little harder I think, difficulty modes would do wonders here. All in all, I just wish it were expanded a little, which is a pretty good critique to have of a pretty cheap indie game. Let's hope they make a sequel!

Very clunky and unfun in FPS battle mode. Overly simplistic in map mode. Enemy groups, even the weakest ones which would be equivalent to looters in Freeman or Mount and Blade, scale to match your group strength and not only do I hate level scaling but it's totally unnecessary here. If you want Mount and Blade with guns, shell out the extra cash and get Freeman: Guerilla Warfare or Conflict: Total Resistance. Neither game has an especially good reputation particularly Freeman but they're both a lot better than this.

loved the game but now cant play it really disappointing

There's definitely something appealing here. For $8 - $3 it's definitely worth checking out. I just wish it had a little more polish.
