Very pleasant (and pretty) Celeste-like, with a number of interesting gameplay twists of its own. Definitely worth a shot if you're into the genre.1 found this helpful
Celeste taught us that trans people can dash in midair, and Tethergeist teaches us that disabled people can teleport short distances.1 found this helpful
a good time for any celeste fans with a whimsical, ghibli-esque world and some fun mechanics.
You'll enjoy Tethergeist greatly if you liked games like Celeste, though you shouldn't expect it to live up to the same legendary standard. The game has a beautiful art style and great mechanics that I think make it stand out among other platformers. I enjoyed the effort the game put into world building its setting, which while not as expansive as some other games is still more impressive than is usual for platformers of this sort.
I think the game succeeded in making the reveal of the city beneath the mountain feel big, but it missed the opportunity to build upon that with additional reveals. The history of the shamans, the reason the city is abandoned, the role of the mountain god, all of these could've added a little spice to the setting of the final chapters.
That being said, I felt its narrative was a little lacking in substance or weight. The story bits were there, but a little more development at each stage of the story would've made me much more attached to the characters. Also the animation in story cut scenes didn't quite succeed in striking the emotional tones I felt the story was building In terms of gameplay, I think most chapters were great, I…
A great precision platformer. If you like Celeste or Super Meat Boy, you'll like this. For $17 and 10 hours of gameplay (depending on how good you are, and if you go for the collectibles), its well worth it. The story is fine. It didn't blow me away, but it also didn't want to make me skip through it as fast as possible. That's not really what you play the game for anyway, and the sections you're forced to read aren't that long. Also, the game does a great job of teaching you how to use its mechanics. It's very Portal-esque in that sense.
Very nice game! You really get that fix of Celeste with this :)
