The Empathy Algorithm

A very short visual novel about an experiment in which you need to find out who is an android or a human. Pros The GUI is very nice The premise is interesting and has a nice outcome the first time Cons: Game is very laggy, probably because of all the animations in the background. It is no fun to play it when there are so many lags and wait times. It is nice to have voice acting, but I personally found it a bit soso The premise is good, but the game is too short to make an impact. The ideas we see here are not really new. Overall, I recommend because it is free and you can make your own opinion.

An interesting visual novel that does an old concept-what it means to be human-but does it quite well. A couple of the endings are quite emotionally charged, helped by the competent voice acting. The credits for it are also quite amusing and worth sitting through-I especially enjoyed the vehicle design part of them.

slow, boring. no possibility to speed up text, setting in options seems to be bugged. just pressing space again and again to go through the dialogs that are empty. the game is missing something that makes you curious what happen next

Its a fun litle game to play !!

The Empathy Algorithm is a short visual novel that caught my attention because it takes a very simple idea and turns it into something much more uncomfortable. I play as Erin Cole, a university student who signs up for a paid experiment involving an android. The job seems straightforward at first. I am supposed to talk to the android and judge how human it seems, but things quickly become less clear when Ji jeon Park enters the experiment and claims that she is actually human. From there, the game becomes much more about conversations, identity and trying to work out what I am really being asked to judge. The writing is easily the strongest part for me. Most of the game is made up of conversations, so there is no combat, puzzle system or complicated gameplay getting in the way. Instead, I am choosing responses and watching the conversation develop around subjects like love, free will, death and trauma. I like that the game is willing to slow down and actually spend time on these ideas rather than using the science fiction setting only for decoration. The central question about what makes someone human gives the conversations a reason to exist beyond simply moving the story forward…

Man, I like when I discover free VN with interesting premise. This one doesn't take long, and if you willing to engage with the story ([spoiler]which is trying to sus out who's who[/spoiler]), then the expirience is worth it.
