Not the best book but accurately preserved. The book itself is fairly middle of the road, a mc guffin hunt with an excuse plot and a bunch of unconnected encounters. Its at least one of the few books that can be completed with minimun stats, but sucsses involves trial and error. This isn't one of the best, don't buy this over Citadel of Chaos or something but you could do worse. As for the adaption? Its... alright. I dont like how theres only one music track that plays over and over again until you mute it or how slow the dice rolls in the repetive fights. The ui is otherwise pretty good once you find where you click to acsses you sheet, and it looks decent enough. One change I dont like is it takes away all your occured gear and treasure when you reach the end of the forest and have to circle back, which is not something the paperbook did
A childhood classic now realised on PC in full colour and sound. Highly recommended.
One of my favorite of the series, old and classic sword and sorcery fantasy in a nutshell Not too long, not too hard and a lot of fun ----------------------------------------- Um dos meus favoritos da série, encapsula perfeitamente a antiga e classica fantasia estilo "espada e magia" Nem muito longo, nem muito dificil mas muito divertido
i know this is an old game, so it makes sense that accessibility was not at the forefront of development, but still, given this game is text based, it should be one of the most accessible games. even removing the page background graphic and adding font size sliders would go a long way to creating a more accessible game. and assuming all of the books use the same engine, this would be a single change.
The Forest of Doom, developed and published by Tin Man Games, is a digital adaptation of Ian Livingstone’s classic Fighting Fantasy gamebook that successfully translates the charm of 1980s interactive storytelling into a modern format. Set within the mysterious and dangerous expanse of Darkwood Forest, the game casts you as a lone adventurer tasked with retrieving the two halves of a legendary hammer forged by dwarves. This artifact is vital to the defense of Stonebridge, a city on the verge of ruin. What follows is a perilous journey through an ever-changing wilderness where monsters, traps, and unexpected encounters lurk behind every page, and every decision you make could be your last. It is a work that relies on atmosphere, choice, and luck to sustain tension, evoking the feel of reading a well-loved adventure book while giving it the convenience and accessibility of digital play. Tin Man Games has built its reputation on bringing classic gamebooks to contemporary platforms, and The Forest of Doom stands as one of its most faithful recreations. The core mechanics remain true to the original format: your character’s fate is determined by rolls of virtual dice that govern your s…
