The Hive is an amateurish attempt at both worldbuilding & RTS genre, and honestly but sadly not worth our time. Made by Finnish indie developers, I am all for giving them plenty of leeway, but this project is just way too shallow! While the premise of the game may sound promising on paper, it fails to translate it both into gameplay and story.. The Hive feels like an inept custom mod made in Warcraft 3 Battlenet, but even those had a competent skeleton to build upon. The RTS genre has been flourishing since the 90s, you got "Starcraft 1" and "Warcraft 3" to learn from, you got "SC2: Wings of Liberty" back in 2010, "SC2: Heart of the Swarm" in 2013! That is 3 years before the release of this game. If the devs are such avid "fans" of the genre, it is impossible they have missed those, because it feels like they never played or truly understood both the RTS genre and hive factions like the Zerg. This faction feels like a coat of paint on very basic RTS units, not much unique about them. The worldbuilding is all over the place as well! It was supposed to be a Sci-Fi or Lovecraftian underground insectoid civilization, yet we have lizards and ghosts!? Make up your mind, is this fanta…17 found this helpful

more BUGS than i'm happy with :(
How to explain this. I like the game, it was a fun experience. Is it good? Kinda, its a very close 6/10 when it comes to the game itself. The story was complete garbage, with an advisor that I felt they missed the mark with, at the end. I would have loved a twist that would explain why he knows everything. But they went the safe route with an endgame boss that left so much more to give. The RPG aspect of the game was really not good. Sure your units can level up, but its only for the map, which makes it just useless overall sure they get stronger, but the next map they still goes back to 1 when you craft them again. (Hero units should have exp/lvl carried over. Then we come to the equipments. No point in them after 5 maps, I dissolved everything for DNA just to increase my overall stats for every unit instead of just making 1 or 7 units stronger. The idea is great, but I felt it should have been that instead of upgrading your units with buildings, you upgrade the whole DNA strand with equipments. For example take the Light infantries, you want to give them more health? Give them armor and everyone gets more. And instead of having like 6 gears for each unit, you could have made t…
I hate to give this game a bad review because it is charmingly weird. Yes it's jank but it's engaging jank. My biggest problem with the game is how zoomed in the camera is even when it's zoomed out as far as it can go. It makes the game feel claustrophobic and not in a good way. It also makes selecting units from another location a slog. Yes you can click on the minimap, but I prefer to quickly move the camera to where the units are and the system they have in place just does not make that efficient. If the camera as I described it does not bother you there is a fun game to be found here. It's an indie game for sure. Don't expect anything mind blowing but it does play well and I can't fault it for not being original. Weird, but original. I hope they fix the camera, I really do.
